Outright Betting
It promises to be a fascinating fortnight in at the All England Club with a vibrant mix of youth and experience littered throughout the 128 player draw.
Here’s a look at some of our favourites for the Wimbledon title:
Petra Kvitova – 5/1 (Ladbrokes) – The two-time Wimbledon champion has returned from injury emphatically in recent weeks to climb to number 8 in the world rankings. Her big serve and lefty angles enable her to cause many problems for opponents on grass and she arrives in West London in fine form having won 5 titles already this season.
Serena Williams – 6/1 (Coral) – The seven time champion returns to the holy grail of tennis looking to find her best form following the birth of her daughter. Much has been made of the decision to seed her at number 25 in the tournament – despite being 186 in the world rankings – but her pedigree at this level is unquestionable and she will be under increased scrutiny here.
Garbine Muguruza – 8/1 (Betway) – Defending champion Garbine Muguruza has struggled for form since winning the title at SW19 last summer but her power hitting game looks tailor-made for the grass. Seeded 3 here, she looks to have a favourable draw and will fancy her chances of defending her title.
Angelique Kerber – 12/1 (Betfred) – The former World number 1 and 2016 Wimbledon finalist has returned to form in recent weeks following a barren 2017 and she most certainly has the game to trouble anyone. One to watch with a favourable draw.
Simona Halep – 14/1 (Bet Bright) – The world number 1 and French Open champion finally got the Grand Slam monkey off her back with the title at Roland Garros and should arrive in London full of confidence – she reached the last 8 last year and looks well placed to go even better this time.
Sloane Stephens – 18/1 (William Hill) – The exciting American has come of age on the WTA Tour since winning her maiden Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows last season and she backed that up with a run to the final at Roland Garros – not known for her grass court prowess though.
Caroline Wozniacki – 20/1 (Bet Victor) – The Dane too broke her Grand Slam duck at the Australian Open earlier in the season and picked up title at Eastbourne last week to cement her place in the world’s top 5.
Elina Svitolina – 50/1 (Betfred) – The Ukranian world number 4 has enjoyed yet another solid season without necessarily picking up the trophies to back it up – could spring a surprise here.
Naomi Osaka – 60/1 (888 Sport) – The hard-hitting Japanese youngster looks to have all the hallmarks to be a top 10 player in the future and could announce herself on the world stage here.
