What lies in store for Antoine Griezmann?
The future of Antoine Griezmann has dominated column inches across Europe for numerous transfer windows. Fresh off the back of his man of the match performance to help Atletico Madrid lift the Europa League – his second trophy collected at the club – could the 27 year old be looking for pastures new this summer? His talents are well known across Europe and there is a list of potential suitors for the former Real Sociedad man. We analyse the options for Griezmann in the summer transfer window:
Join the Barcelona revolution?
With another La Liga under their belts, it’s easy to forget that Barcelona are in the midst of a transition period with the likes of Neymar, Xavi, Mascherano and Iniesta leaving the club in the last 12 months. Effective reinvestment looks to be their policy and the pull of playing for Barcelona will always be there and Griezmann looks to fit the prototype of a Barcelona player with his skill on the ball and industry off it. Barcelona are the favourites at 2/5 with Bet Victor to sign Antione Griezmann this summer.
Premier League Player?
Many English teams have courted Griezmann for the last few seasons and Manchester United in particular seem to have been very prominent in their pursuit of the Frenchman. Jose Mourinho’s men struggled domestically last season and despite their wealth of attacking options, often looked to be lacking a creative spark in the middle of the pitch – something Griezmann would undoubtedly provide. Manchester United are 8/1 with William Hill to snare him from Atletico this summer.
Stay put at Atletico?
Griezmann has often spoke of his affiliation for Atletico Madrid and his stock has risen significantly in the Spanish capital – on a personal note he came 3rd in the Ballon d’Or in 2016 behind the usual suspects of Messi and Ronaldo. He is the heartbeat of their now star studded team and with a World Cup summer looming, he may not want to move at this point. Perhaps most importantly, Atletico have spoken publically at their frustration in dealing with Barcelona over transfers – which could potentially complicate any deal. Griezmann is 11/4 with Betway to stay at Atletico for next season.
As Antoine Griezmann prepares for another summer of speculation (as well as a World Cup) it remains to be seen where he ends up. One thing is for certain, whichever team he lines up for in August will have a serious player on their hands.
