The upsets continue at the Rogers Cup (although we told you to be wary about backing Nadal) while the Premier League is back this evening, so we are definitely having a bet on that. As we predicted, the Monfils-Bautista Agut match went the distance last night but elsewhere, it was a disappointing evening.
Nevertheless, as a Lucky 15, even one correct bet guarantees a return from one four-fold, four trebles, six doubles and four singles, we did not finish empty-handed.
Here are today’s bets:
- Tennis: Alexander Zverev to beat Kevin Anderson at around 4/9
- Tennis: Karolina Pliskova to beat Caroline Wozniacki at around 8/11
- Tennis: Adrian Mannarino to beat Denis Shapovalov at around 4/7
- Football: Arsenal -1 to beat Leicester City at around 9/10
Alexander Zverev to beat Kevin Anderson
Zverev came through a stern test last night to beat Nick Kyrgios, and he has so far carried his Washington form into this tournament. With Nadal out, he is the only seed left in his half. Anderson upset the form book to beat Sam Querrey, but this is not a good match-up for him. Zverev leads the head to head 3-0, including winning last week in Washington. As impressive as Anderson has been in recent weeks, Zverev is better, quicker, and on course to win again.
Adrian Mannarino to beat Denis Shapovalov
Shapovalov has had a rollercoaster ride this week. He saved match points to beat Rogerio Dutra Silva, dispatched Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets and then saw off top seed Nadal yesterday. It has been a more controlled run for Mannarino, and we think his experience will see him through. Shapovalov will be roared on by his home crowd, but the effects of the long match against Nadal should count against him. That was the biggest win of his career, and he will struggle to back it up so quickly.
Karolina Pliskova to beat Caroline Wozniacki
Pliskova is slowly going through the gears at this tournament as if she is not yet comfortable with her world number one tag. However, two wins are two wins, and she has beaten Wozniacki twice this season already – although Wozniacki did clinch victory in Miami. Pliskova’s recent form has been better, and I think the battle she faced before Naomi Osaka retired will stand her in good stead to take on and beat the Dane. Over 2.5 sets at 11/8 stands out as an option too, as does Pliskova to win 2-1 at 3/1.
Arsenal -1 to beat Leicester City
We have a feeling this could be a good season for Arsenal, and they should have beaten Chelsea before the Community Shield got to penalties. Recent wins over Chelsea, Benfica and Bayern Munich prove the Gunners should hit the ground running this season, and with Leicester looking far from convincing in pre-season, the home side should be backed to win this one by a clear two-goal margin. Past form tells us that Arsenal tend to start well before falling away, so take advantage of them when they are in form and have everybody fit and firing.
