The world’s best women arrive in Toronto this week looking to gather momentum during the US Open series of tournaments. Predicting match and tournament winners is proving difficult on the WTA tour at the moment due to the absence of big names such as Maria Sharapova & Serena Williams. But with so many names in the 64 player draw, it promises to be an intriguing week of tennis.
Women’s Draw Preview – WTA Tour: Outright Betting
The outright markets – as always – are governed by who’s due to play who and where the threats in the draw lie. The Rogers Cup always entices the biggest names in tennis and this year is no exception meaning there should be lots of fascinating tussles throughout the week.
Karolina Pliskova – 8/1 (Bet Victor) – The newly crowned world number 1 will be looking to carry on her rock solid form and show why she currently sits at the top of the rankings. A disappointing Wimbledon aside, Pliskova has been the most consistent player on the WTA tour this year and looks good value at 8/1.
Garbine Muguruza – 9/1 (Bet Victor) – Following her sensational performance at SW19, Muguruza looks to be the heir to Serena Williams’ throne. Her ability to play on all surfaces coupled with her incredible power make her a very serious threat in every tournament she plays. Fitness could be the only issue with her busy schedule of late but she’s definitely one to look out for here.
Simona Halep – 10/1 (Bet Victor) – 2016 champion Simona Halep has a genuine chance of catching Pliskova for the number 1 spot over US Open swing but looks to have a tough draw here. Halep does favour the quicker hard courts though and will be hoping she can find some form in Toronto.
Johanna Konta – 11/1 (Bet Victor) – Following her ground-breaking performance at Wimbledon, Konta will be hoping she can kick on during the hard court season. She has a tough draw here (on course to play Kerber in last 8) and she could also face Cibulkova in the last 16 so will have to be at her best throughout the week.
Other players to look out for in the draw – predominantly for each way betting:
- Caroline Wozniacki – 16/1 (Bet 365) – has reached 5 WTA tour finals this season without lifting a trophy.
- Venus Williams – 20/1 (Bet Victor) – reached the Wimbledon final and can beat anyone on her day.
- Svetlana Kuznetsova – 20/1 (Bet Victor) – another genuine threat with a good looking draw.
