Both Senegal and Algeria recorded identical 2-0 wins in the opening round of the Africa Cup of Nations, and this clash will decide who will finish at the top of Group C. The highest-ranked CAF team, Senegal (FIFA rank: #22) dispatched Tanzania 2-0 in a routine victory that saw them win both halves. A 2-0 win is one that Senegal have become accustomed to in this competition, with each of their last three group stage victories coming via that scoreline.

Although Senegal head coach Allou Cissé is winless in two prior encounters with Algeria (D1, L1), they are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions (W7, D1) with six of those seven victories accompanied by a clean sheet.

Algeria have been drawn in the same group as Senegal in each of the last two editions of this tournament. They avoided defeat in both games, with Algeria inflicting Senegal’s recent AFCON group stage defeat.
