Scouts from Manchester United and Chelsea in the stands at Ajax-PSV
Scouts from several top clubs were in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday afternoon at the match between Ajax and PSV. According to English media, Manchester United and Chelsea scouts, among others, were in the stands watching for new acquisitions.
More than half of the Premier League clubs had a scout in the Johan Cruijff ArenA last Sunday afternoon, according to English media reports. Both Ajax and PSV currently have players under contract that several clubs are scouting for. For instance, several clubs were present to keep an eye on the performance of Cody Gakpo. PSV’s left winger could have already made the switch to the Premier League last summer, but decided to stay in Eindhoven after all. Manchester United still appear to be interested in the striker and consequently sent a scout to Amsterdam last Sunday. An Arsenal scout was also present at the match to keep an eye on Gakpo.
Chelsea and Everton were both in the stands for both Mohammed Kudus and Edson Álvarez. Kudus was firmly in Everton’s interest last transfer window, but saw a deal fall through at the last minute. Álvarez was in the same boat last summer. The defensive midfielder had the option to leave for Chelsea, but Ajax held up a transfer. Both players are still in the interest of clubs and can just expect another call next winter.
Ibrahim Sangaré and Érick Gutiérrez were also being watched. West Ham United and Leeds United reportedly watched the PSV duo last Sunday. Gutiérrez accounted for the 0-2 and played a solid game. Sangaré featured less in the game but did not get into much trouble. According to English media, scouts from Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City were also in the stands at the Johan Cruijff ArenA to keep an eye on several players.
