Saturday’s clash between Schalke and Dortmund will be a joy to watch. The stake is huge, and these two clubs hate each other. The visitors are firm favorites to grab three points, so let’s take a closer look. 

Schalke vs. Dortmund: Initial Situation  

The bottom four teams in the German Bundesliga are sitting at 19 points, including Schalke (W4, D7, L12), who own a poor 18:42 goal difference. Dortmund, on the other side, are second with 49 points (W16, D1, L6) and a 47:28 goal difference. 

Schalke Stats & Form 

The Miners are undefeated in six straight Bundesliga games. After four consecutive nil-nil draws against FC Koln, Borussia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg, and Union Berlin, the Miners have outlasted Stuttgart 2-1 at home and Bochum 2-0 on the road. 

Dominic Draxler is the Miners’ leading scorer with six goals in 2022-23, but the 32-year-old midfielder is sidelined with an injury. Defenders Eder Balanta and Thomas Ouwejan are on the shelf, too. Keep your eyes on winger Marius Bulter, who scored once against Bochum last weekend. Bulter now has five goals on his season tally.  

 

Dortmund Stats & Form

The Black and Yellows have won eight straight league games. Last week, they defeated RB Leipzig 2-1 at home to keep pace with Bayern Munich, who are topping the Bundesliga standings thanks to a better goal difference than Dortmund. Since the World Cup break, the Black and Yellows have won four consecutive league matches on the road, scoring nine goals in the process and allowing two in return. 

Dortmund are missing forwards Karim Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko, who have combined for 12 goals and nine assists in all competitions so far this season. Midfielder Jude Bellingham leads the way for the BVB with ten goals and six assists, while fellow midfielder Julian Brandt has accounted for nine goals and five dishes thus far.

 

Schalke – Dortmund: Head-to-Head

Dortmund have won four straight encounters with Schalke without conceding a single goal. The Black and Yellows beat the Miners 1-0 at home in their first meeting of the season. It was way back in September, and Dortmund outshot Schalke 19-3 while keeping the ball at their feet for 60 percent of the time. Youssoufa Moukoko scored the winner in the 79th minute.

The bookmakers are expecting Dortmund to extend their dominance in the Revierderby, and I think 1.60 is a fair prize. The Black and Yellows are a much better team than the Miners, whose defense has done a great job of late. That’s why I don’t like 1.70 odds on the Over 2.5 Goals. Schalke have only yielded one goal over their previous six outings in the league.
