San Antonio Spurs vs Phoenix Suns: Current situation
With 30 games left to be played, the San Antonio Spurs have to make a decision on whether or not they want to continue chasing the 10th seed and a potential play-in tournament spot. Right now they are 3.5 games back from the Warriors and with just 3 wins in their last 10 games they aren’t posing a threat at the moment. A win on Thursday vs Phoenix would get them to within 1 game of the 11th seeded Suns.
Phoenix is generally considered as one of the biggest underachievers in the NBA this season, they are basically the Philadelphia 76ers of the Western Conference. Kevin Durant has reportedly been unsettled by the team trying to trade him before the all-star break, but being the professional that he is we are confident KD will give it his best as he tries to drag these Suns into the postseason. The situation is far from ideal though, Phoenix has just 3 wins in their last 10 games.
San Antonio Spurs Stats & Form
The Spurs were blown out by the Boston Celtics in their last game before the break. They shot just 23% from three-point land and despite getting 30 assists, they could never really get going against the defending champions. They return from a 6-game road trip where they won just twice. Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul return from All-Star weekend where they stole the headlines, but for all the wrong reasons.
Phoenix Suns Stats & Form
The last 5 games of the Suns saw them lose to the Rockets, Grizzlies, Nuggets and Thunder which is alarming. All 4 of those teams are currently in the top 5 of the Western Conference and the Suns have haven’t been able to compete against stronger teams. Even a 37-point effort by Kevin Durant against the Houston Rockets resulted in a 119-111 loss just before the break. Phoenix now has one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NBA, it would be a big accomplishment if they finished as one of the top 10 seeds in the West.
San Antonio Spurs vs Phoenix Suns: Head-to-Head
With 102 wins in 191 regular season games, the Spurs have been the superior team in head-to-head meetings in the regular season. Phoenix is up 1-0 in the regular season series this year though, having won back in early December. It was their 11th win in the last 14 meetings, but despite that they head into Thursday’s game as slight underdogs.

Betting tip and prediction: San Antonio Spurs vs Phoenix Suns (20.02.2025)
Both teams could be a bit slow coming out of the All-Star break as their respective rosters have had almost 7 days of no basketball. The Suns road form is alarming here, they’ve lost 4 games in a row, but as long as they have Kevin Durant on their roster we feel like they will not give up in their quest of catching one of the remaining play-in tournament spots. Devin Booker went off for 29 points in the first meeting back in early December, he could be in line for yet another big game here as the Spurs aren’t exactly equipped to handle a played as talented as him at the guard position. San Antonio has actually done a solid job at defending the three-ball over their last 3 games, but teams have still shot 48.5% overall against them from the field during this stretch. This tells us that they struggle with the mid-range shot, which is a specialty of Kevin Durant. Phoenix would be smart to push the tempo here and try to tire out Victor Wembanyama. With their big three of Durant, Booker and Beal healthy and playing, they have a lot more firepower on offense than the Spurs do. The Suns have 11 wins in 14 meetings, they’ve also triumphed in 8 of their last 9 visits to San Antonio. We believe those trends will continue here, so let’s back Phoenix to get the all important road win here.
