San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies: Current situation
Things are heating up in the Western Conference as we get close to the mid-way point of the season. The Spurs are currently one of four teams within just half a game in the play-in tournament battle of the Western Conference. Unfortunately for them they are currently outside of the race, ranking 12th with 19 wins and 20 losses. With just 1 win in 5 games they’ve hit a bit of a rough patch, but with 3 games vs East teams coming after this one, they might just turn things around.
After Wednesday’s win over the Spurs, Memphis has solidified it’s grab of the 3rd seed in the Western Conference at 26-15. The Nuggets are 1.5 games back in 4th, while the Rockets are 2 games ahead in 2nd with the tie-breaker in hand. That means the Grizzlies are likely finishing 3rd, unless they go on a huge run which is unlikely at this point. The important thing for Memphis is to stay fully healthy ahead of the postseason, that’s something they’ve not been able to do for the past couple of seasons.
San Antonio Spurs Stats & Form
Once again the defense was a massive letdown for San Antonio as they allowed the Grizzlies to score 129 points in Wednesday’s game. Combine that with the fact that Victor Wembanyama had an off night going just 5-for-19 from the field, you get a 14-point home loss. Wemby did drain 3 threes in that game, which means only 2 of his field goals were 2-pointers. Expect a bounce back performance on Friday as the Spurs look to bounce back.
Memphis Grizzlies Stats & Form
Everyone is talking about the Ja Morant dunk over Wembanyama which didn’t count, that play completely overshadowed all the good things the Grizzlies did in Wednesday’s game. Memphis dominated the rebounding battle, had more assists and more steals, while committing less turnovers. The 14 offensive rebounds allowed them to attempt 103 field goals in the game, 14 more than the Spurs had.
San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies: Head-to-Head
Despite the injuries in recent years, this match-up has been dominated by the Memphis Grizzlies. They’ve won 15 of the last 16 meetings, while outscoring the Spurs by 4.4 points per game in the 10 most recent games. From a bettors perspective though, San Antonio does have the edge with a 7-3 ATS record in those 10 games, but unless they can turn things around they won’t stand a chance on Friday.

Betting tip and prediction: San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies (17.01.2025)
There was a massive difference in energy levels between the two teams in Wednesday’s match-up, especially in the 2nd half where Memphis came back from a 12-point deficit in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. Ja Morant and co. are the better shooting team, the superstar finished the game with 21 points and more importantly he dished out 12 assists. The Grizzlies are at their best when their best player gets everyone involved, 3 other Memphis players scored 19+ points in the win. San Antonio has really struggled against faster teams this season, having an aging point guard like Chris Paul forces the team to play slower and against a team like the Grizzlies that strategy simply doesn’t work. Wembanyama is due a bounce back performance here, it’s hard to imagine a player like him having two bad games in a row against the same team. However, we still feel like the Grizzlies are the team to go with here. Over their last 3 games they are shooting the three-ball at 41.4% efficiency, which makes them one of the hottest team in the league right now. They’ve also kept opponents off the glass, allowing 51 rebounds per game during that stretch, it will be another long night for San Antonio here. We are picking the Grizzlies.
