Rocket Mortgage Class 2019 Golf Preview & Tips
The PGA Tour welcomes a new tournament to its schedule this week in the shape of the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic (June 27-30). The inaugural event will be held at the Detroit Golf Club, which will stage the event until 2022. It is being sponsored by local Detroit-based company Quicken Loans who, as you might guess, own the Rocket Mortgage Brand.
Detroit Golf Club dates back to 1899 and the tournament will combine 17 holes from its North Course and the third hole of the South Course this week to deliver a Par 72 measuring over 7,300 yards.
Features of this Donald Ross design are tree-lined Bentgrass fairways and undulating Poa Annua green complexes that are expected to run at between 12 and 12.5 on the Stimpmeter. The fourteenth is the only hole to feature a water hazard. The rough is also expected to be quite thick this week, adding more importance to accuracy off the tee.
The course will comprise ten par 4s, four par 3s, and four par 5s, with the most interesting hole being the fourth which can play as long as 635 yards.
Rocket Mortgage 2019 Market Leaders
The bookies never take a chance on Dustin Johnson and the world number one is the market leader this week at prices ranging from 5/1 to 13/2. He’s capable of notching up a win anywhere but takes on an unfamiliar layout this week on the back of a couple of average finishes in the US Open and the Canadian Open. He’s much more likely to be thinking about the Open Championship in three weeks and doesn’t look to represent any value.

Rickie Fowler will also have at least one eye on the build-up to the Open Championship, and he’ll also be disappointed by his 43rd place finish in the US Open, considering he was tied second after round one.
By contrast, Gary Woodland will be thrilled by his win in the 2019 US Open, but he’ll probably have been too busy doing the rounds with his trophy to have practiced as much as normal this week.
That means that Hideki Matsuyama looks the most interesting of the market leaders at around 14/1. The Japanese player has already won plenty of tournaments worldwide and this looks an ideal chance for him to claim a sixth PGA Tour victory. He’s really caught the eye recently, with decent finishes on Poa Annua greens at Torrey Pines, Riviera, and Pebble Beach, whilst he shot a 64 at Muirfield Village to suggest he’s not far off his best.
Back Another Poa Annua Specialist
The other player that should be ideally suited by this week’s layout is Brandt Snedeker, who has won twice at both Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach and is looking to win his tenth PGA Tour Title this week. His hard work with his golf coach means he’s been finding more greens in regulation this season and he just needs the putter to get hot to contend this week.
