The 2019 RBC Heritage (April 18-21) may not hit the same levels of excitement as last week’s US Masters, but it still has a rich history that began in 1969 with victory for Arnold Palmer.
Its traditional venue is the Harbour Town Links in South Carolina and this par-71 layout measures just over 7,000 yards, which means it’s short in comparison to most courses used on the PGA Tour. However, it’s still a tournament that has attracted many golfing greats, who have taken on the challenges of accurate approach play and short game prowess that the course demands.
High-profile names that have won here include Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo, whilst the likes of Hale Irwin, Johnny Miller, Hubert Green, Tom Watson, Fuzzy Zoeller, and Payne Stewart have won it twice. However, even they don’t compare to Davis Love III, who has lifted the trophy on five separate occasions.
RBC Heritage 2019 Market Leaders
Many of the big names that got into contention at last week’s US Masters are near the top of the market this week. But only one of the last six winners of the RBC Heritage that played at the US Masters has recorded a top-20 at Augusta that season. That suggests the likes of Dustin Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Xander Schauffele, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Cantlay, and Webb Simpson may be up against it this week.
That makes Bryson DeChambeau the most interesting of the market leaders this week. Not only has he learned how to win tournaments with remarkable frequency over the last couple of seasons, but he’s also suggested he’s a sure-fire future winner of this event by finishing third and fourth in two of the last three editions.

Two Past RBC Heritage Winners to Consider
As the RBC Heritage has such a rich history of players that have won twice or more, it could also be worth betting on two past champions this week.
The first of those is 2010 and 2015 RBC Heritage Champion Jim Furyk. He may be eligible for the Champions Tour in a couple of seasons, but the storming finish he conjured up to finish second at The Players Championship earlier in the season showed he could have another win in him on the PGA Tour. He lacks the length off the tee to compete on some of the longer courses but Harbour Town Links is an ideal fit for him and he’s fancied to go close this week after posting top-25 finishes in each of his last five tournaments.
Branden Grace looks another former winner of the RBC Heritage worthy of each-way support this week, as he showed definite signs of returning to something like his best at the WGC Matchplay two-weeks ago. He made the cut at last week’s Masters, but was never in contention, and he should relish a return to this event where his form reads 7/1/11.
