Port Vale have been on a poor run of form lately with just two points picked up in their last five games. It has left them not too far from the drop zone, but they have a nice seven points cushion above the relegation spots. The Valiants are winless in their last eight league games with a D3 L5 record from that. So there are huge problems for them and they have conceded thirteen goals in their last five games a well so they have fallen apart at the back pretty badly lately. However, that is overall form and at Vale Park specifically, they are unbeaten in six games (W3 D3) each of their last three there ending in a draw. So they have been digging out home points at least which should give them some kind of hope going into this fixture. Their overall home form is W5 D4 L7 for the season but they have improved drastically on home soil. They have scored 19 goals in their 16 home games so far with 63% of them coming after the half time break. At the moment they are just looking to consolidate and hold themselves clear of the drop zone as a top half of the table finish looks highly unlikely.
Newport
From looking like a promotion candidate to floundering around in the bottom half of the table. That’s where Newport’s season has gone. They are D2 L3 in their last five league games now and each of those three defeats in that sequence of games were out on the road and in them, they shipped a total of ten goals. That’s a poor return but then you would have to question whether or not Port Vale could hurt them that badly. Probably not. It is worth considering the half-time draw though as Newport have been level at the break in 10 of their road games this season. Their defence hasn’t been good on the road having conceded 1.7 goals per game and their recent collapses have pushed that up. They have taken a clean sheet in just 17% of their away games and it may be well worth considering both teams to score in the game.

This will be just the second-ever game between these two sides. When the two met in South Wales earlier in the season with a 1-1 draw that was played out so that is all the prior form that there is to go on.
