Philadelphia 76ers vs New York Knicks: Current situation
Despite all the negativity around the 76ers mostly caused by Joel Embiid’s injuries, the team has showed a lot of character not giving up on the season despite being outside the playoff picture for most of the first 3 months. Right now Philly is 2 games back from the 10th seeded Chicago Bulls, but in order to jump over them they will have to end their 2-game losing streak and start winning some games.
We’re in mid-January and the Knicks are in a fairly comfortable position in the Eastern Conference. At 26-15 they hold a firm grip on the 3rd seed, with no chance of going up or down unless they go on a significant run in the coming weeks. Boston is 2nd with a 3 game lead, while the 4th seeded Magic are 3 games back. This gives head coach Tom Thibodeau some breathing room to rest a few players from time to time, perhaps the Knicks will have some energy left in them come playoff time, unlike in previous years.
Philadelphia 76ers Stats & Form
Once again the 76ers disappointed many people by scoring just 99 points in their latest loss to Orlando this past weekend. Tyrese Maxey and Paul George had 29 and 25 points respectively, but outside of them nobody else really stepped up. Joel Embiid once again did not play, that means that the Magic have won the regular season series 3-1. As underdogs the 76ers are now just 3-16 on the season.
New York Knicks Stats & Form
Jalen Brunson followed up his 44 point night vs Milwaukee with 31 and 11 assists against Detroit, but the Knicks couldn’t capitalize. They committed 18 turnovers on the night which led to 15 fast break points by the Pistons. Karl-Anthony Towns continued his solid play with 26 points and 12 rebounds, it’ll be interesting to see how he does here as KAT is averaging just 20.8 points per game in the last 5 meetings with Philadelphia.
Philadelphia 76ers vs New York Knicks: Head-to-Head
Winning the regular season opener back in mid-November means that the Knicks have now won back-to-back games vs Philly in the regular season. They also won the regular season series 3-1 last year, plus the 1st Round match-up in the Eastern Conference by a score of 4-2. These games have been marked by low scoring with an average of just 205.2 points per game scored in the last 10 head-to-head.

Betting tip and prediction: Philadelphia 76ers vs New York Knicks (15.01.2025)
Just a game after their offensive clinic in the 140-106 win over Milwaukee, the Knicks returned to their old habits of letting everyone down with a 5-point home loss to Detroit. The offense continued to play well, aside from the 18 turnovers committed which ultimately cost them the game. Defensively the Knicks also couldn’t do much against Cade Cunningham who torched them for 36 points, they could run into similar issues here as they go up against Tyrese Maxey and his 76ers. Philly’s point guard is averaging 29.2 points per game over the last 5 meetings, we all still remember his 46 point explosion in the playoff series between the two teams last season. The Sixers have a tough home match-up with the OKC Thunder on Tuesday, but there is good news on the injury front as Joel Embiid could return to face the Knicks. If that’s the case, then backing the 76ers to get something out of this game seems like a viable option. New York struggles to defend the paint, they allow 48.4 points per game on the inside this season, while over their 3 most recent games that number has gone up 55.3 per game. The combination of Embiid down low, Maxey’s speed and Paul George’s three-point shooting ability will be too much for the Knicks to handle her. We are backing the home team to cover the spread.
