We also share with you our prediction and betting tip.
Netherlands World Cup 2022 – Latest Team News and Statistics.
The Netherlands already started the 2022 World Cup with a difficult victory over Senegal, which only gave way in the closing stages (2-0). The criticism wasn’t too bad at that point: After all, Senegal is champion of Africa. After the draw against Ecuador, things were different. After an early goal by Cody Gakpo, the Netherlands played conservatively and showed little initiative. The equalizer by Enner Valencia did not help the Dutch.
The Dutch eleven is tied with Ecuador after two matches, both in points and goal difference. Van Gaal’s team still has everything in its own hands. Even a draw or defeat – however unlikely – need not be fatal in terms of a ticket to the knockout phase. In the latter scenario, Senegal would have to lose to Ecuador.
The day after the game against the South Americans, the internationals were back on the training pitch. During that session, Noa Lang injured his ankle in a duel with Tyrell Malacia. The Dutch could use Lang’s creativity to add some spark to the team. Maybe Xavi Simons will get a chance against Qatar?
Qatar World Cup 2022 – Latest Team News and Statistics
Qatar was, on paper, one of the lesser teams prior to the World Cup. For now, the host country is living up to that status quite nicely. In the opening match against Ecuador, the Qatari side were 0-2 down after only half an hour through two goals by Valencia. It was the first time ever that the host country of a World Cup lost the opening game.
Against Senegal, Qatar held out a bit longer: only just before halftime did the Africans take the lead. After Mohammed Muntari’s tying goal, Félix Sánchez Bas’s team had a brief hope, but six minutes later Olympique Marseille attacker Bamba Dieng scored the decisive 1-3. Qatar thus became the first country to lose out on a place in the eighth finals at the 2022 World Cup.
If Qatar loses to the Netherlands, it will also become the first host nation ever to go scoreless at a World Cup. It has nothing left to lose against the Netherlands and will undoubtedly want to score against a big soccer country like the Netherlands. Against Senegal we already saw some more offensive intentions from Qatar. In the game with Ecuador it did not fire a single shot on goal, against the Africans there were three. The number of shots doubled, from five to 10.
Netherlands – Qatar Previous encounters
The Netherlands and Qatar have not played each other before. However, it will not be the first time the Netherlands has faced a Middle Eastern country at a World Cup. In 1994, the Netherlands played its opening game against Saudi Arabia. It fell behind early on, but Wim Jonk and Gaston Taument repaired the damage in time. In 1978, the Dutch team faced Iran on its way to the World Cup finals. Rob Rensenbrink finished the job single-handedly, with a hat-trick (3-0).
