Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers: Current situation
The Timberwolves have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far. At just 9-10 they currently occupy 11th place in the Western Conference, that doesn’t even give them a play-in tournament spot. For a team that went all the way to the Conference Finals last year that’s a significant drop-off. It all comes down to their defensive effort. After ranking in the top 3 in defensive efficiency last season, the Timberwolves are currently outside the top 10.
People were quick to praise JJ Redick and his new look Lakers following a 10-4 start to their season, but after a recent run of just 1 win in 5 games they pretty much have an identical record as last year under Darvin Ham. There are definitely some positives to take away from this season, but if the Lakers are smart they will look into cutting the minutes of LeBron James. At 39 years old he is still producing numbers, but the team has a negative plus/minus record when he plays and that has really hurt them this season.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
We finally saw a glimpse of what this Timberwolves defense is capable of in their most recent game as they held the LA Clippers to just 92 points in a 1-point win. That win ended a 4-game losing streak, however there is still a lot of work to be done as Minnesota shot just 41% from the field in that game. Although they are 6-4 in 10 home games this season, betting on Minnesota to cover the spread at Target Center has yielded profit just twice in 10 of those games.
Los Angeles Lakers Stats & Form
As underdogs the Lakers haven’t had much success this season, winning just 1 of 6 such games. They have a relatively easy game on Sunday at Utah, but that means Monday’s game at Minnesota will be a 2nd night of a back-to-back for them. To make matters worse point guard D’Angelo Russell is questionable to play with an illness, while shooting guard Austin Reaves is dealing with a pelvis injury which could keep him out for both games.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers: Head-to-Head
The Lakers took the first meeting of the season played on opening night 110-103, that was one of their rare wins this season against teams with positive records from last year. Minnesota has had the upper hand in head-to-head meetings in previous years, clinching the last 3 regular season series and winning 8 of 11 games.

Betting tip and prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers (02.12.2024)
Has father time finally caught up with LeBron James? The King has scored just 18, 18, 16 and 12 points in his last 4 outings and the Lakers have lost 4 of 5 games. LeBron also struggled in the season opener against Minnesota scoring just 16 points, it could be a long night for him and his Lakers in Minneapolis on Monday. The Timberwolves aren’t having the best of starts to their season, but they did just end their losing streak with a 1-point win over the Clippers. It all comes down to effort on the defensive end for this team. When they hold teams to under 100 points they will usually win, but the issues is that has not happened as much as they hoped it would so far this season. Anthony Edwards has also struggled shooting the ball lately, but against a stale Lakers offense his efficiency should improve a bit. LA is in the bottom part of the table when it comes to opponent three-point efficiency, they could struggle containing the Timberwolves here as they shoot 39.2% from three in home games this season. All in all, in a game between two teams currently struggling we would give a slight edge to Minnesota here.
