Newcastle are the ones charged with trying to keep Manchester City quiet on the weekend in the Premier League. It is going to be a tough game for the visiting Magpies though as they will be facing a wounded-beast. Manchester City were beaten for the first time in this season’s Premier League last weekend as they could not contain a rampant Liverpool side at Anfield. So they will probably be coming out and chomping at the bit to try and shake off that defeat. The loss is hardly likely to knock any wind out of their sails and it may actually have relieved some pressure off them as they had that hanging over their head.
Everybody was basically waiting for them to fail. The two sides met recently just after Christmas at St James’ Park and Newcastle tried to defend their way to a point from the opening whistle and couldn’t hang on as the Citizens found a way to break them. The Citizens have scored a total of fifteen goals in their last four home games against Newcastle and with Pep Guardiola’s men averaging over three goals per game at the moment on home soil in the top flight, it is little surprise that the Champions-elect are going into the home game as favourites.
City have strong head to head form against Newcastle as well they are undefeated in their last twenty Premier League fixtures against the Tyneside club home and away and they have won each of their last eight top-flight home games against them as well. So this could be a really difficult afternoon for Newcastle on Saturday and the Magpies have failed to score in each of their last four games in all competitions against the Citizens.
