Manchester City Midfield Search
Teams in the Premier League can now sign players and the champions, Manchester City, are expected to make a move in the transfer market this summer.
It will seem like an impossible task to improve on last season for Pep Guardiola but there is one area of his team he would surely like to strengthen, and that’s central midfield. More specifically, the holding midfield position.
Fernandinho is 34 years old and although still a quality player, suffered with injury problems last season. The Brazilian cannot be relied upon to play the bulk of the matches in the next campaign and Guardiola will be looking for a long term replacement.
Rodri
Guardiola could return to his homeland for the ideal player. Atletico Madrid’s Rodri Hernandez has only been at his current club of Atletico Madrid for a short period of time but has made a huge impact. He joined the club in 2018 from Villarreal for a fee of around €20 million. It has proved to be a bargain.
Rodri made his debut for the Spain national team in 2018 and has six caps to his name at the time of writing. At only 22 years of age, Rodri still has plenty to learn but has shown himself ready to play at the top level.
He was a regular for Atletico Madrid in his first season at the club and could push Fernandinho hard for a starting place in Manchester City’s midfield next season. The Citizen’s may be forced to part with over £65 million for the player and he is 3/1 with BetVictor to make the move to the Etihad this summer.
Ndombele
Tanguy Ndombele came to the attention of many fans in the Champions League last season. The French midfielder currently plays for Lyon in Ligue 1 and his performances have seen him linked with a big money move this summer.
The 22 year old initially joined Lyon on loan from Amiens and then made the move permanent in 2018. He played 33 times for the club in Ligue 1 during the 2018/19 campaign and helped guide them into the Champions League again next season.
The French international has been attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur linked with a move but Manchester City could step in if a move for Rodri fails to materialise.
Manchester City are 7/1 with Betfair to sing Ndombele in the summer transfer window.
Other Options
Other players who may be considered by Manchester City in midfield this summer include Ruben Neves of Wolves, who is 9/1 with Betfair to make the move to the Etihad and Youri Tielemans who is 6/1 with BetVictor.
The former enjoyed a good start to the life in the Premier League with Wolves last season while the latter impressed on a loan spell at Leicester City from Monaco.
