Los Angeles vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Current situation
Despite the 0-1 deficit against Minnesota, the mood around the Lakers isn’t all that bad coming into Game 2. General manager Rob Pelinka got a contract extension for obvious reasons, that sends a clear message that LA is committed to the path he has taken them on while acquiring Luka Doncic. Going down 2-0 is not an option here, the Lakers will look to take advantage of their 31-10 SU home record.
Minnesota is not your typical 6th seed. Although they took a step back compared to last season, in terms of win total at least, we all know this team ranks much higher than that considering the talent they have. Anthony Edwards is maturing right in front of our eyes, he is looking to carry this team one step further from last season’s West Conference Finals.

Not a lot went the Lakers’ way in Game 1 as they were held to just 95 points by the feisty Timberwolves. This is an experienced roster, but they did show their age at a couple of points during that game. LeBron James in particular had a poor showing, making very little impact on the game with his 19 points and 4 turnovers. Luka Doncic balled out with 37, including 5 threes though.

The Timberwolves let it fly from three-point land in Saturday’s win and that strategy paid off big time. They finished the game 21-for-42 from three, while overall they shot 51.2% from the field en route to 117 points. Sixth man of the year Naz Reid had 23 points on 6-for-9 from three, the bench played a vital role in Minnesota’s Game 1 victory.

Betting tip and prediction: Los Angeles Lakers – Minnesota Timberwolves (22.04.2025)
They say a series doesn’t start until the road team wins a game, if that’s true then we have ourselves a series on our hands already. The youth of the Minnesota Timberwolves came into play against LA in the series opener, Anthony Edwards didn’t have the best of shooting nights, but he was still a tough guard for LA with his 22 points and 9 assists. Apart from Doncic going off, the Timberwolves were able to shut down everyone else and we believe that strategy could be in effect for Game 2 as well. The Lakers bench production was a disaster – they got just 13 points total off the pine, while overall as a team they shot just 39.8% from the field. Head coach JJ Redick is expected to make adjustments in Game 2, but you have to wonder how much he can do as a rookie coach in this league? We are looking at Rudy Gobert to make an impact in Game 2. He had just 2 points in the opener, playing just 24 minutes. He obviously has the height advantage over everyone down low, if the T’Wolves opt to get him involved more here, Rudy could very well end up scoring 20+ points. All the pressure is on the Lakers in Game 2, the oddsmakers have them favored by 6.5 points after they lost Game 1 by 22 points. We are not keen on backing them to make such a quick turnaround against a very solid Timberwolves team. Give us Minnesota plus the extra points in Game 2.
