Houston Rockets vs Miami Heat: Current situation
The Rockets went into the Christmas break on a 3-game win streak and came out of it with a strong performance against the Pelicans. However they were brought down to Earth by the Timberwolves which ended a 4-game win streak. After the loss they’ve now dropped to 3rd in the West standings with 21 wins and just 10 losses. Although that might sound like a negative thing, most Rockets fans would sign off on finishing 3rd prior to the season.
It’s all been about Jimmy Butler and his status for the Miami Heat. So much so that president of basketball operations Pat Riley had to issue a statement that the team is not actively looking to trade him. These type of distractions can be very detrimental to a team, right now Miami is on a run of 6 wins in 10 games, which isn’t too bad. After this weekend’s mini 2-game road trip, they’ll have their next 3 games at home.

Alperen Sengun exploded for 38 points and 12 rebounds, Amen Thompson added 20, but the Rockets couldn’t hold on as they fell at home to Minnesota 113-112. Anthony Edwards scored a go-ahead three to ice the game for Minnesota. Fred VanVleet had a three-point attempt late, but it wasn’t good. Once again the Rockets bench scoring was a problem, only two players produced just 10 total points in this game.

The Heat mostly relied on their defense and Tyler Herro to get win their last game over the Orlando Magic. Herro scored a game winning fadeaway jumper to put Miami in front 89-88 against the shorthanded Magic. Although they didn’t impress with their scoring here, Miami was able to hold the Magic to just 5-for-30 shooting from the three-point line. That type of performance against Houston would give them a solid chance of pulling off an upset.
