In the final tournament before the US Open, the golfing fraternity head to Memphis looking to secure valuable form and prize money before the second major of the year. In what has been one of the most open and hard to predict tours in recent memory, it seems as if literally anybody could pick up the crown here in Memphis – which adds to the value and intrigue surrounding the St Jude Classic.
PGA St Jude Classic Tournament Preview & Betting Tips
As part of the Fedex tour, the St Jude Classic has once again assembled a strong field with a mix of established names and up and coming startlets.
Here’s a look at some of our favourites for the St Jude Classic:
- Dustin Johnson – 7/1 (Ladbrokes) – The world number two is always in contention and sometimes beats himself rather than lets others beat him. Despite a relatively inconsistent and unremarkable 2018, he has the game to trouble the course here and is potentially unstoppable if on form.
- Brooks Koepka – 11/1 (Betfred) – The defending US Open Champion has been in solid form since winning the title at Pine Hills last year – as indicated by his current world ranking of 8. He is returning to form too having finished 2nd in his last appearance at Fort Worth and he could be one to watch here.
- Phil Mickelson – 14/1 (BetVictor) – Few can match the record that Phil Mickelson has in world golf and as the US Open approaches he will want to find his best form. The US Open is the only major that eludes him (having finished there on 6 occasions) and this could be the ideal preparation for ‘lefty’.
- Henrik Stenson – 16/1 (BetBright) – The consistent Swede has struggled a little bit in 2018 but his credentials are always good at this level. He tends to bring his A game as major season approaches so will be very much one to keep an eye on this week after his top 15 finish last week.
In a very open field at the St Jude, here are some of the best outside golf betting tips:
- Tony Finau – 25/1 (William Hill) – This has very much been a breakthrough year for Finau who will be looking to back up his top 10 finish at the Masters earlier in the season.
- Billy Horschel – 28/1 (Coral) – Despite not having the best couple of years, Billy Horschel possess the game to trouble any golf course and his win in Louisiana at the end of April could give him confidence here.
- Byeong Hun An – 33/1 (BetVictor) – Fresh off the back of his second place finish at the Memorial last week, the young South Korean is beginning to find his feet on the PGA Tour and could pose a threat this week.
- Keegan Bradley – 50/1 (Ladbrokes) – The 2011 PGA Championship winner is yet to fully fulfil his potential on the PGA Tour but he has managed to qualify for the US Open next week and could be full of confidence.
- Top Pick – Dustin Johnson – 7/1 (Ladbrokes)
- Outside Pick – Byeong Hun An – 33/1 (BetVictor)
