France U21 vs. Romania U21 Game Preview
Both France and Romania recorded two wins in the opening two games of the European Under-21 Championship and now they have an opportunity to progress to the semi-finals with a friendly draw. Namely, a point is all they need to secure places in the top four teams in Europe and the odds significantly dropped on a draw. It remains to be seen whether they’ll opt for such a scenario.
France U21 Team News and Latest Form
After defeating England in the dying moments of their opening game at the European Under-21 Championship, France narrowly beat Croatia in the next match thanks to an early goal from Moussa Dembele. Dembele had a ton of goal-scoring opportunities against the Young Lions and even failed to convert a penalty in the first half but made up for it with a winner against the Young Blazers.
Now, Les Bleuets are in a situation to win just a point against Romania in order to advance to the semi-finals and head coach Sylvain Ripoll might decide to rest some of his key players such as Dembele, Lucas Toussart, Malang Sarr, Dayot Upamecano, and Ibrahima Konate.
France recorded just one victory in seven matches prior to this tournament but managed to win two in a row and they managed to find the back of the net in even 28 of their previous 29 games. On the other hand, they kept their net intact in only two of their last nine matches, so even if France will try to play a draw with Romania, it is hard to expect a scoreless one.
Romania U21 Team News and Latest Form
Surely the most pleasant surprise of the European Under-21 Championship along with Poland, Romania beat Croatia and England to reach the top position in Group C. Just like they did against Croatia, the Little Tricolours used counters to hurt England and that tactics proved to be the right one as they secured a 4-2 victory although it could end differently.
The Young Lions attempted even 24 shots at goal including eight on target but fantastic captain goalkeeper Andre Radu was exceptional for the Romanians and stopped every shot he could while the Englishmen also hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions. It was a scoreless tilt until the 76th minute when George Pușcaș scored from the penalty spot and we saw a completely different game from that moment. England managed to equalise twice but substitute Florinel Coman scored a brace in space of just four minutes to knock out the Young Lions out of the competition.
Romania scored only one goal in two friendlies before coming to Italy but at this tournament, they already scored eight goals and are the second top-scoring team behind Germany who have nine goals so far.
France U21 vs. Romania U21 Head to Head
France have met Romania on four occasions and they are still without a defeat, winning two games with two draws. Les Bleuets allowed only one goal in those four encounters and won the last two to nil but it was way back in November 2011.
France U21 vs. Romania U21 Betting Tip
The odds on a draw dropped to miserable 8/11 and even though this tilt could easily end 0-0 or as a draw, I am not going to back such an option, I am not even considering it. The bookies are suggesting that it will not be a scoreless stalemate, though, with the odds on BTTS No set at 19/20, so I believe they do expect to see a draw with goals here. I am backing both teams to score bet at 4/5 and you can find these odds with 22Bet.
