FC Barcelona recovered in La Liga from the defeat against rival Real Madrid. It won its second home match in a row 4-0 over Athletic de Bilbao this weekend. Three days earlier, it beat Villarreal 3-0. With the two wins, Barcelona is now firmly in second place with 28 points from 11 games. They are three points behind leaders Real Madrid.

In the Champions League, things are going a lot harder for Xavi’s team. In the last match, they narrowly missed out on a point at home against Internazionale: 3-3. The draw leaves Barcelona with a slim chance of qualifying for the next round. It won in the Champions League so far only in the first round of play against Viktoria Plzen (5-1).
Against Bayern, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen and Sergi Roberto are missing with injuries. The latter did not emerge unscathed from the clash with Athletic de Bilbao. Bayern have already played four draws and lost once in the Bundesliga this season. The only defeat was away at FC Augsburg (1-0).
In the Champions League, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team has won all four matches with an impressive goal difference of 13 goals for and two against. The only goals against were scored in the previous round of games by Viktoria Plzen, who lost 2-4 at home.
Bayern Munich are missing Bouna Sarr, Lucas Hernández and striker Leroy Sané through injury. The Barcelona game also seems to come too soon for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
