FA Cup Betting Tip: Carlisle v Sheffield Wednesday

League Two side Carlisle get the chance to bring down a Championship opponent. The Cumbrians have struggled by and large, for consistency this season, but they are facing a Sheffield Wednesday side who have really had their struggles this season up in the second tier and are not carrying any kind of form with them. Still, the Owls are 19/20 to take the win, with the home side at 16/5.

Carlisle Form:

Logo Carlisle FCYou never quite know what you are going to get from Carlisle. They have gone W2 D1 L2 in their last five on home soil, but they have been scoring pretty well at Brunton Park having only failed to score in one of their last ten home games in all competitions. So they have that going for them and they took a solid 3-1 home win over Gillingham in the last round of the FA Cup, a side from a tier above them. So they will be quietly confident of pulling off another upset here. They can’t be trusted to get out with a clean sheet though so both teams to score in the tie has to offer some appeal.  They have just one clean sheet in their last ten at home.

Sheffield Wednesday Form:

The Owls are tanking badly at the moment and it has been a rough season for them. They have lost five of their last six games played now and they aren’t offering a great deal of threat going forward. Because of their form, the Championship side faces a tough game in this one against the lower-tiered opposition. Wednesday have collected only two wins in their last twelve away games (D4 L6) so they aren’t reliable and they have collected only the two clean sheets in that sequence. Last season they were pushing for promotion, this season they look highly at risk of suffering an FA Cup upset against a League Two side.

Head to Head News:

The last time these two were in the competition was in the 2011/12 League One season. The two of them won their respective home games on that occasion. There have only been the two FA Cup games played between them before and from that, they have won one each, the Owls taking the most recent meeting back in 1997.

Tricky game for the Owls really who aren’t running with any kind of form and they have to be vulnerable here, plus they aren’t likely to be at full strength. So a draw may have some appeal in the match outright here.
