Ecuador vs. Chile Game Preview
Ecuador suffered a disastrous 4-0 defeat in the opening game against Uruguay and they will be looking to make a better impression this time around but it’s not going to be easy with the reigning champions. Chile, on the other hand, were excellent in a 4-0 victory over Japan and they are hoping for another three points here that would secure them a place in the quarter-finals.
Ecuador Team News and Latest Form
One of two CONMEBOL teams never to have won the Copa America, Ecuador (FIFA ranking #60) started this edition with a 4-0 hammering by Uruguay and continued their record of no win in any fixture in 2019 (D2, L3). That loss to Uruguay also marked their 14th straight game without a victory over a fellow CONMEBOL nation at the Copa America.
Their opening Copa America game also continued a theme of failing to beat any current FIFA top-20 team since they took out Chile in a World Cup qualifier (#16) back in October 2016. When they do win a game, however, it tends to be clear cut, with ten of their last 11 victories coming with a -1 handicap.
Angel Mena Delgado is a player to watch as he has scored 14 goals in 23 matches this season for Leon (MEX), with six of his last eight coming in the second half.
Chile Team News and Latest Form
Chile beat Japan 4-0 in their first match, which also saw then win the first half – a feat achieved in their last four CA games not to end goalless. It was also the sixth Copa America victory (including penalties) in a row for the holders.
La Roja have now scored in seven straight games (W4, D1, L2), but have only kept two clean sheets over that period. Curiously, Chile scored the last goal of the match in all those games, but only netted before the break in three of the last nine.
Eduardo Vargas has scored three goals in his last two international games, all came in the second half. Chile haven’t conceded a single goal in their last four Copa America matches, scoring 13 (inside 90 minutes).
Ecuador vs. Chile Head to Head
Ecuador and Chile have met on 40 occasions and Chile are leading in all-time H2H encounters (W24, D9, L7). There hasn’t been a draw in the last nine H2Hs (CHI: W5, L4). Ecuador have beaten Chile just once at the Copa America (D1, L12). There have been 22 yellow cards (and three reds) shown in last five H2Hs.
Ecuador vs. Chile Betting Tip
After dismantling Japan in the first round, Chile have an opportunity to book their place in the knockout phase with three points here and it’s going to be extremely hard for Ecuador to avoid a defeat. They didn’t deserve to go down 4-0 against Uruguay and although I don’t expect Chile to be that dominant in this one, I am still backing La Roja to get a win at 7/8 with 888Sport.

Also, I am going with Chile to score over 1 goal and in combination with them to win using Bet Builder with 22Bet, you can find them at solid 11/8 odds. The H2H record is completely on Chile’s side and they have better individuals in their squad, so the win should be a problem for La Roja.
