David Goffin News & Form
The 28-year old Belgian had an easy job in the first two rounds, beating Bradley Klahn and Jeremy Chardy in straight sets. In the round of 32, Goffin upset the 11th seed Daniil Medvedev in five sets. David played very well against Medvedev, tallying 61 winners and 39 unforced errors while winning 84% of his 1st serve points and 36% of Daniil’s 1st serve points.
Goffin is having a decent season, winning 21 of his 36 matches. He reached one final in 2019, losing to Roger Federer in Halle on the grass court. He made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the third time in his career, while Goffin is 23-18 on the grass court at the ATP Tour.
Fernando Verdasco News & Form
The 35-year old Spaniard opened with a convincing straight-set victory over Kamil Majchrzak. Verdasco overcame Kyle Edmund in the second round after dropping the first two sets, while Fernando put on another strong performance in the round of 32, defeating Thomas Fabbiano in straight sets. He made 45 unforced errors against Fabbiano but hit 19 winners more than his opponent (37-18).
Verdasco came to London as the World No. 37 and with a 17-15 record in 2019, still searching for his first final of the season. Fernando is back to the last 16 here after six years, exiting in the first round in his last three outings at Wimbledon. Verdasco has a 51-41 record on the grass court in his career.
Goffin vs Verdasco Head to Head
This will be the seventh head-to-head duels between David Goffin and Fernando Verdasco, and each player has been victorious three times so far. Goffin won their previous meeting back in 2017 in Rome on the clay court 3-6 6-3 6-2. This will be their first-ever duel on grass.
Goffin vs Verdasco Betting Odds and Predictions
The bookies consider David Goffin as a firm favourite to qualify for the next round. You can take the Belgian at 1/3 with Ladbrokes or Coral, while Fernando Verdasco is listed as a 9/4 underdog on the same platforms. Goffin is available at 9/5 to win in straight sets with William Hill that offers 2/5 odds on Verdasco to win at least a set.
Betway offers a 38.5-game line with both over and under at 17/20 odds. The alternative line at 39.5 games is available with Betfair and both over and under pays 5/6. The bookmakers obviously expect to see at least four sets in this match, and the price on the over 3.5 sets is 8/15 with William Hill.
Goffin vs Verdasco Betting Tip
As well as the bookies, I think Goffin won’t finish a job in three sets, and I would upset if we don’t see at least four sets here. Therefore, the best bet is on the over 3.5 sets at 8/15 with William Hill even though the price is not attractive.
I would avoid taking a side bet. Verdasco has a strong serve and an excellent forehand, while Goffin often struggles with his 1st serve. If you want a higher price, I suggest you take the over 38.5 games at 17/20 odds with Betway.
