Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Current situation
At just 1-4 SU over their last 5 games and covering the spread once in their last 6, the Mavericks are currently in one of their worst slumps of the season. The main reason for that is of course the absence of Luka Doncic who is still out with his left calf strain. He will be re-evaluated in 10 or so days, the All-Star break cannot come soon enough for these Mavericks.
Donte DiVincenzo is the only absentee currently for Minnesota with a sprained left great toe. That’s a big blow for a team that’s been severely limited in shooting the ball this year, DiVincenzo is one of the more lethal shooters we have in the NBA. Over their last 13 games the Timberwolves have covered the spread just 4 times, after this latest defeat to Memphis they’ve dropped to 9th place in the Western Conference.
Dallas Mavericks Stats & Form
Dallas is coming off a 110-105 loss at Charlotte on MLK Day this past Monday. It wasn’t a good look for the Mavericks losing to the 11-28 Hornets, a team that’s likely to finish with a bottom 3 record in the NBA this season. Kyrie Irving did his best dragging the team with 33, while Daniel Gafford added 31. However, as a team the Mavs shot just 6-for-32 from three and turned the ball over 14 times.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
Minnesota also lost on MLK day as they fell in Memphis 108-106 to the Grizzlies. The loss stings quite a lot since the Timberwolves led by as many as 16 points in that game, but they just couldn’t hold on. The level of frustration is high right now, especially with Anthony Edwards who is delivering 30+ point performances on a nightly basis and yet the team is just 2-4 SU over their last 6 games.
Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Head-to-Head
From a bettor’s perspective it has made more sense to back Dallas in this match-up, they’ve covered the spread 7 times in the last 10 meetings, winning 6 of them. Games between the two teams played in Dallas have often resulted in low scoring outputs from both sides, the under has cashed 5 times in the last 7 such games. Whoever wins Wednesday’s game gets the tie-breaker which could be valuable down the line if the two teams end up with the same record at the end of the regular season.

Betting tip and prediction: Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves (22.01.2025)
Minnesota’s main objective in this game is to stop Kyrie Irving, if they are able to do that then a victory is almost guaranteed. However, that might sound easier said than done. Irving has dominated the Timberwolves in recent meetings – he’s averaging 31.8 points per game in the last 5 games against them, with Luka Doncic not playing that number could go even higher on Wednesday. We just saw him drop a cool 33 in the loss at Charlotte on MLK Day, the Mavericks need every point they can get out of him with their best player Doncic currently absent. Apart from DiVincenzo not playing, the Timberwolves don’t have many issues on the injury front, but regardless of that there’s been a significant drop-off in quality of play lately, especially on the defensive end where the chemistry between the two best players Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle just isn’t clicking. This match-up has been a difficult one for quite some time now, Minnesota is just 2-5 ATS/SU over the last 7 games vs Dallas. They’ve lost 3 out of 4 games overall, until we see improvements in the one-two game between Randle and Edwards we would not recommend backing the Timberwolves. Go with the slightly safer option and back Dallas to win.
