Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics: Current situation
At 17-3 the Cleveland Cavaliers fans have had hardly any complaints this season, however just a mini 3-game losing streak can see their team drop to 2nd in the standings. The Atlanta Hawks beat them in consecutive games, at home and then on the road. Cleveland returns back home for Sunday’s game where they are 10-1 for the season, only the New York Knicks have had better offensive numbers than the Cavs in home games.
Boston is heating up right now. They are currently on a 7-game win streak and just got back Kristaps Porzingis from injury. That adds yet another element to an already very complicated offense to figure out for opposing teams. With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown already reaching last year’s form, it is safe to say that the Celtics are the team to beat currently in the NBA, even if they don’t have the best record coming into Sunday’s game.
Cleveland Cavaliers Stats & Form
Donovan Mitchell had one of his worst games of the season, if not the worst. He went just 5-for-23 from the field in Friday’s 117-101 loss to the Hawks. Cleveland’s signature offense was no where to be seen against a fairly mediocre Hawks defense, which is a bit of a concern as we head into December. Dean Wade and Max Strus are both game time decisions to play here, the Cavs would love to have some extra depth against the toughest team in the NBA.
Boston Celtics Stats & Form
Boston has only Derrick White on the injury list, but he too is a game-time decision and will likely play here. Being the deepest and healthiest team in the NBA has seen the Celtics lose just 3 games all season long, a win here gives them top spot in the Eastern Conference. They’ve been shooting the lights out from three-point land in the last 3 games, averaging 41% of makes during that stretch. It’ll be interesting to see how the Cavaliers handle Porzingis here, he did not play in the first meeting of the season which Boston won 120-117.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics: Head-to-Head
Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell went blow for blow in that first meeting, scoring 33 and 35 points. However, Boston dominated early on and had a 21 point lead which the Cavs could never recover from. The last 6 meetings have seen Boston win 5 times, however they’ve covered the spread just 3 times in their last 9 visits to Cleveland.
Cleveland Cavaliers – Boston Celtics Odds
Going for an 8th straight Celtics victory here will net you odds of 8/13. It’s not often we see the Cavs as underdogs, but for Sunday’s game you can get odds of 11/8 for a home victory here.
The point total has been set at 224.5 points, with odds of 10/11 supporting either the over or the under.

Betting tip and prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics (01.12.2024)
Boston is currently in an offensive groove which we haven’t seen a team have in years. They are scoring threes at will, connecting on 20 threes in 6 of their last 7 games. No team in the league attempts as many shots from distance as they do and opponents are just not able to weather the storm. This is bad news for the Cavaliers who are 2nd only to the Atlanta Hawks in opponent three-point percentage this season, allowing 38.5% of threes to go in. Over their last 3 games that number has gone up to 40%, Boston could well be on their way to another 20+ three point night here. Losing back-to-back games to Atlanta ruined all the good things the Cavs have done so far this season, but that’s what happens when you win 17 of 20 games and now opponents are giving you their best effort every single night. The play of Donovan Mitchell has also raised some eyebrows as of late. He’s had 10 and 12 points in 2 of his last 4 games, that kind of inconsistency from your best player will come back to haunt you at some point. Boston came out hot shooting the ball in the first meeting of the season, they ended up with 22 threes made in that game. With the way Cleveland is playing right now, it would be a shock if Boston didn’t win and cover the spread here. Back the Cs on the road.
