Chile vs. Uruguay Game Preview
After a big opening victory over Japan, Chile had more troubles to beat Ecuador but they secured three points and now they need just one to end at the top of the group C. Uruguay, on the other hand, practically secured their place in the quarter-finals following Paraguay and Peru’s losses earlier this weekend. The winner of this group will face Peru and will avoid Colombia in the quarter-finals, and considering that Colombia collected a maximum nine points in their group, no one wants to play against them at the moment.
Chile Team News and Latest Form
Only a loss for Chile will see them finish second, with the reigning Copa America holders winning both prior group games in this year’s edition. Both games saw Chile win the second half to nil, handing them a first perfect two-game start to a Copa America tournament since 2001.
Despite this, there is still room for defensive improvement, with six of Chile’s last seven outings seeing both teams score. The last three games of the six in that category saw the first two match goals equally shared, and Chile started sluggishly in all of that trio, conceding exactly once in the opening half-hour.
A popular pick to score anytime for Chile, Alexis Sánchez has scored in each Copa America game so far, with both goals arriving in the second half. Chile have gone five Copa America matches (since June 2016) without conceding from open play.
Uruguay Team News and Latest Form
Uruguay have been hugely entertaining for the neutrals, with each of their prior group games in this Copa America tournament seeing exactly four-match goals either way. Both games have seen Uruguay score (at least) the second and fourth goals of the day.
Overall, scoring first could be important if they want to win the group. Indeed, prior to their 2-2 draw against Japan last time out, three of Uruguay’s four preceding matches had seen them score first inside the opening 15 minutes and go on to keep a clean sheet.
Just like Alexis, Uruguayan hitman Luis Suárez also has two in two so far this tournament, with both goals arriving in the first half. Half of Uruguay’s six Copa America goals in 2019 have come in the 15 minutes prior to half-time.
Chile vs. Uruguay Head to Head
They have met on 47 occasions since 1916, so it’s a big rivalry more than a century old. Uruguay are leading the all-time H2H encounters with 27 victories, Chile have 12 wins while eight matches ended as a draw. The last two Copa America H2H duels have produced a goalless first half. Additionally, only one of the last seven CONMEBOL zone World Cup qualification H2H meetings have seen both teams score before the break.
Chile vs. Uruguay Betting Tip
Chile will try to keep their net intact here and playing on a scoreless draw wouldn’t be surprising at all. Still, Uruguay scored at least two goals in each of their last five games and four in the previous two with La Roja, and if someone can score against Chile in this group, it’s Uruguay. On the other hand, their defence showed some weaknesses in a 2-2 draw with Japan and Chile found the back of the net in each of their last eight matches. We’re backing both teams to score at 10/11 with 22Bet and if you want to add little more on it, you can try with BTTS and draw at excellent 15/4 odds.
