New weapon in battle for Bellingham: Gerrard wants to help Liverpool
Liverpool already reinforced themselves with Cody Gakpo this winter, but would like to add another top talent to the squad. Indeed, The Reds have entered the battle for the signature of 19-year-old Jude Bellingham. In that battle, it now also gets help from club icon Steven Gerrard.
“The most logical purchase for Liverpool would be Bellingham,” the ex-midfielder and now clubless coach stated to BT Sport. “Liverpool lack a running number eight who can also score a goal and he meets those qualities. I am sure Bellingham is smart enough to consider Liverpool as an option, where he can work with one of the five best coaches in the world,” he was referring to Jurgen Klopp.
Gerrard himself would like to help his old club convince Bellingham. “I would love to see him at Liverpool. I’ll fly to Dortmund myself and take him out for dinner. I think it will be good for his development to play in England. Get him to send his diary to me and we’ll arrange something,” the Englishman said with a wink.
Idol
Gerrard’s statements will certainly not leave Bellingham cold. In the past, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder has already stated that the Liverpool icon has always been his great idol. Yet it is not yet said that his new destination is already set. Real Madrid are also reportedly keen to bring in Bellingham, while Dortmund’s asking price is unlikely to be soft.
