Betting Tip: Watford v Tottenham Hotspur

Watford welcome a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon in a clash between two highly rated young managers in Marco Silva and Mauricio Pochettino. Both of these sides lost their midweek matches, although it will be Tottenham who were more disappointed after losing 2-1 to Leicester City saw them slide further down the table. Pochettino must arrest this slump that Spurs have entered since beating Real Madrid and he will be looking to kick start their season again on Saturday. On the flip side, Watford can go level on points with Spurs if they beat them; something which would have seemed unthinkable after 15 games at the start of the season.

Watford

Watford lost 4-2 to Manchester United on Tuesday evening during an exciting game in which Manchester United took a 3-0 lead, thanks to three superb goals, before Watford fought back in the second half to make it 3-2. Watford again showed some great attacking play, coupled with some less than impressive defending as their struggles at home continued. Troy Deeney will be pushing for a start on Saturday after impressing from the bench in place of Andre Gray.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur’s rotten form continued on Tuesday night as they went down 2-1 to Leicester City at The King Power Stadium. Spurs are in a real rut at the moment, having won just once in their last five Premier League matches. Something just isn’t quite right with this team at the moment and they appear to be lacking a little bit of desire on the field. Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld are big misses for Spurs and without them they really lack steel in their spine. Erik Lamela finally made his comeback from injury against Leicester City, coming off the bench to assist Harry Kane for his goal and fans will have been delighted to see the mercurial Argentinian back on the pitch.

Talking Points

1. Watford are 16th in the home table, having won just 2 of their 7 matches at Vicarage Road this season.
2. Harry Kane has scored in three consecutive matches, taking his tally in the Premier League to 10.
3. Watford have scored 24 and conceded 25 this season, showcasing all that is good and bad with this side at the moment.

Prediction

This could be an interesting game at Vicarage Road on Saturday and I think if Watford can improve defensively then they have a chance. Watford will need to get in the faces of Spurs and press them high up the field and if they do that, then I think they will have a real chance of causing an upset here. Spurs just don’t seem at the races right now and if they concede early again, they could well go into their shell. I’m predicting Watford to get something out of this game, whether that be a victory or a draw, I’m not sure.

Betting Tips

Spurs start this game as favourites at odds of 8/11, whilst a home win for Watford is available at 7/2, with the draw priced up at 11/4. A solid bet in this one could be on the Double Chance market with Watford/Draw available at 23/20 and that would be my tip as I can see Watford getting something out of the game. BTTS also looks like a really good bet when you consider Watford have the second worst defence in the division, but have scored the third most amount of goals and the 7/10 on that looks like printing money.

Double Chance – Watford/Draw – 23/20 (Ladbrokes)
