At the start of the 2017/18 Serie A season, if one team in Milan were thought to be title contenders, it was AC Milan. They were the club which were spending all the money and bringing in big name players such as Leonardo Bonucci. However, following some heavy investment of their own last season, it is Inter Milan who are the team to watch.
They started the Serie A weekend in second place, only to be dislodged by Juventus’ win over AC Milan on Saturday but a win from this match in Verona will allow them to move back up to at least second place.
Hellas Verona Form
Hellas Verona started the weekend in the relegation zone and nothing has changed heading into this fixture on Monday night. Looking at the Serie A table, only Benevento, who are bottom and SPAL who are one place higher, have a worse record in the league than Hellas Verona this season.
Hellas Verona have won only 1 of their 10 Serie A games this season and that came in a tight 1-0 home victory against the pointless Benevento, who prop up the table. They have failed to get on the score sheet in 6 of their last 9 Serie A games and have lost by 2 or more goals in 5 of their 10 games this season.
Inter Milan Form
Inter Milan have been enjoying an excellent season, especially in comparison to their opponents and have won 8 of their 10 Serie A games. They are yet to taste defeat this season and dropped points have come in the 0-0 draw at Napoli last weekend, which was a very good result. Not many teams prevent Napoli from scoring, especially in-front of their own fans. The other draw was at Bologna.
Inter Milan won their mid-week match 3-2 at home to Sampdoria and while it was good to get 3 points, they were 3-0 up and should have seen out the game comfortably. However, Sampdoria came back into the game late and could have stunned the hosts.
Luciano Spalletti will want to guard against a repeat of that in this game and Inter Milan come into the match in great form, undefeated in their last 12 games in Serie A, including their last 6 on the road.
Team News
Hellas Verona can welcome back Bruno Zuculini who should start the match in midfield. However, they will be without Mattia Valoti, Alex Ferrari, Matteo Bianchetti and Riccardo Brosco who are injured. Inter Milan are still without Marcelo Brozovic, so Borja Valero will continue to play in attacking midfield, with Joao Mario having to settle for a place on the bench.
