Betting Tip: Tottenham v Liverpool

Super Sunday this weekend sees Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool at Wembley Stadium in a huge clash between two teams hoping to keep pace with the Premier League top two. Both of these two sides travelled to the continent this week for away games in the Champions League and both managers will have been pleased with the way things went. Tottenham travelled to Madrid to face the current Champions League holders Real Madrid and came away with a very well deserved 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Liverpool thrashed Slovenian side NK Maribor 7-0 as Jurgen Klopp’s side showcased their brilliant attacking play.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs won their last game in the Premier League 1-0 against Bournemouth thanks to a goal from Christian Eriksen and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be aiming to keep that good run going against Liverpool on Sunday. Spurs have won just one of their four games at Wembley this season in the league, having dropped points against Chelsea, Burnley and Swansea City already. Ahead of the game, Ben Davies remains side-lined through illness, but Danny Rose stepped up his comeback with a 10-minute cameo appearance in the last game, so he could be pushing for a starting spot at left back.

Liverpool

Liverpool drew their last league game 0-0 with Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won just one of their last five games in the league. Klopp knows that things won’t get any easier this weekend against a well drilled Spurs team led by their talisman Harry Kane. Liverpool have a number of key players missing through injury with Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne all on the treatment table. James Milner impressed against NK Maribor in the week though and the former England international could well be pushing for a start this weekend.

Talking Points

1. Tottenham have not beaten Liverpool since November 2012; their longest winless run against any top six side.
2. Philipe Coutinho will be aiming to score in his 5th consecutive away game on Sunday.
3. Liverpool have lost just once this season, but four draws have seen them slip nine points behind leaders Manchester City.

Prediction

Neither side will want to lose this game and Liverpool have certainly performed well against Tottenham Hotspur in recent years. Their form at Wembley Stadium will surely still be in the mind of the Spurs players despite beating Bournemouth last time around and I fancy Liverpool to get something out of this game. Jurgen Klopp must start turning draws into victories and I think he will do that this weekend and pick up a key victory.

Betting Tips (Ladbrokes)

The bookies have Tottenham down as 11/10 favourites for the win, whilst an away victory for Liverpool is available at 23/10 and the draw 5/2. I think Liverpool are going to do well this weekend, so the 23/10 on them to pick up a win looks like great odds to me. The 9/2 on Liverpool to win and BTTS looks even better as I do fancy Spurs to score at least once against a leaky Liverpool backline.
