Betting Tip: Sevilla vs Roma
A fine looking prestige friendly taking place on Thursday is the game between Sevilla and Roma at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. The home side have been well supported in the betting market throughout Wednesday and Thursday to get the win.
Sevilla Form
The club did well to finish fourth in La Liga last season and especially at this stadium, picking up 46 points from 19 games making them a fearsome foe for visitors. Results have been up and down rather in their friendly matches to date, though the highs have been really high with wins against the likes Arsenal against their name as well as a good 2-2 draw away to high spending Everton.
Sevilla, much like Napoli in the other prestige friendly, need to show that they are ready to go as they have a Champions League qualifier next Wednesday against Istanbul Basaksehir and are required to give further minutes to summer arrivals Simon Kjaer, Ever Banega, Nolito, Jesus Navas and Luis Muriel who have given their squad a very good look.
Roma Form
The Italians are not in competitive action for another ten days yet and could be caught sleeping rather here. Last season saw Roma finish second only to Juve in Serie A and they have once again been holding their own over the summer.
Keeping good company with games in the ICC against the likes of PSG, Juventus and Tottenham, Roma have made sure their standards have not slipped too much though arguably this game is a tougher proposition against a team making their final preparations for the competitive season. Roma have signed Federico Fazio, Hector Moreno, Aleksandar Kolarov, Maxime Gonalons and Lorenzo Pellegrini among others but to be honest the signings themselves won’t get too many pulses racing.
Betting Odds
Sevilla have been popular and are now as short as 5/4 with most firms, though 11/8 is still available with Sky Bet. Roma can be backed at 9/5 with a couple of firms but are listed at 17/10 with most, while the draw can be taken at a general 5/2.
Betting Tip
Despite Roma being colloquially the more popular team here and with a huge support, the better money has come in the last day or so for Sevilla and given where they are in their training and the shape of their current squad they look a good bet at these prices. BACK SEVILLA AT 11/8 with Sky Bet to win this in the regulation 90 minutes, a price which looks particularly good value to me.
