Betting Tip: Roma v Chelsea

The top two teams in Group C meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday night as Roma host Chelsea in a big game for both of these sides. When they met two weeks ago at Stamford Bridge, it was one of the most exciting games in the competition so far in which both teams led before the game eventually finished 3-3. Chelsea took a 2-0 lead on that night, before collapsing horribly to fall 3-2 behind. Just when it looked as though the game had gone for Antonio Conte’s side, up popped Eden Hazard to steal a point for the Premier League Champions. Both managers will fancy their chances of winning this one and we could be in for another exciting game on Tuesday.

Roma

Roma have followed up that 3-3 against Chelsea with three wins on the spin in Serie A, all by the same scoreline, 1-0. Roma have been solid this season, but find themselves down in 5th place in the league, despite only losing two of their first ten games. They have a number of injury concerns heading into the game with Konstantinos Manolas, Rick Karsdorp and Emerson all expected to miss the game.

Chelsea

After going into the last game against Roma off the back of consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Crystal Palace, Chelsea come into this game in much better form. Since that draw, Chelsea have beaten Watford, Everton and Bournemouth to propel themselves up to 4th in the Premier League table, above Arsenal and Liverpool. Alvaro Morata has also returned to fitness and that combined with Eden Hazard’s upturn in form has given Chelsea a great chance of mounting a challenge on all fronts this season.

Talking Points

1. Alvaro Morata has five goals in his last three away games for Chelsea.
2. Roma have struggled at home in big games this season, losing to Napoli and drawing with Atletico Madrid in their two biggest games so far at the Stadio Olimipico.
3. Chelsea have scored 11 goals in three games so far in the Champions League, whilst Roma have only scored five times, three of which were against Chelsea.

Prediction

You’d fancy that both managers would probably take a draw in this game, especially considering Atletico Madrid’s struggles so far in the group. The onus will be on Roma to attack Chelsea and that could well play right into Antonio Conte’s hands. I can’t see Chelsea losing this game and I think we could be in for another score draw here.

Betting Tips (Ladbrokes)

Roma start this game as narrow favourites at odds of 17/10, whilst Chelsea are priced up at 7/4 to pick up an away victory and the draw is 12/5. As you can see, the bookies are pretty spread on what could happen on Tuesday night and I think it’ll be a tight game. The 12/5 on the draw looks good to me and to take it further, Draw and BTTS (Yes) at 3/1 could be even better if you’re willing to risk it.
