Huddersfield head into their third game of the Premier League campaign with two wins from two games. I am not sure many would have predicted that, but fair play to them they have been very impressive so far. Southampton have managed to remain unbeaten, although they have only picked up one win and one draw.
After the excitement of their opening two games, things are going to settle down for Huddersfield and this is going to be a good test for them. Many expect Southampton to finish in the top half of the season, and another win here would be a very good result for Huddersfield. You can guarantee one thing with Huddersfield and that is that they will head into the game and play without fear as they search for a remarkable third win in a row.
Huddersfield Form
I’m not sure anyone predicted what Huddersfield have done so far, well done if you did. They are putting up a great fight and these early points are going to really help them in their quest for survival. Compared to their fellow promoted teams from the Championship they already have a six point cushion and that could be nine after this weekend.
On the opening day Huddersfield went to Crystal Palace and announced themselves in the Premier League with a great 3-0 win. That sent out a warning to the rest of the teams and since then they have recorded a 1-0 win over Newcastle.
Not only do Huddersfield have six points on the board, but they are also yet to concede a goal this season. Scoring goals and defending well are needed if you want to survive in the league and so far Huddersfield have been excellent at both ends of the pitch.
Southampton Form
It could easily have been six points for Southampton this season had they taken their chances against Swansea on the opening day. They didn’t and that means they have four points, still a good total and one that Southampton will want to build on.
Their win came last weekend against West Ham and it was a wild encounter that they won 3-2. The positive from that game is that they found the back of the net three times after struggling a little the week before.
I am hopeful that Southampton can finish in the top half of the Premier League yet again this season. They will have the 7th spot in their sights, although right now Everton are favourites to land that. However, they still look set to have a very good season yet again.
Team News
Huddersfield have shown they can score goals in the Premier League and that is going to really please their fans. Steve Mounie, Aaron Mooy and Tom Ince have all been fantastic so far this season, showing they have enough creativity to score the goals that will hopefully help them survive in the top flight. Defensively they look pretty solid too and they are yet to concede a goal so I expect we will see them line-up in exactly the same way.
Southampton will be happy with their start, and it was only not taking their chances that has stopped them from picking up six points. Charlie Austin came off the bench last weekend to score his first league goal for nine months due to injury and seeing him to that will have delighted the fans. He is an important player for them and will hope to continue that as he returns to fitness.
Top Betting Tips
With the way Huddersfield have started this season it is very difficult to back against them and I am sure they would fancy their chances against anyone. With their attacking ability I am sure we are going to see them play their best football at home and because of that I am more than happy to back them to win again this weekend.
Huddersfield can be backed at 11/10 with William Hill and Stan James, good value for a team that have started to well and will be full on confidence. Southampton are a very good team and one I expect to see in the top half this season, but right now Huddersfield is going to be a very tricky place to visit.
In what would be a remarkable start for them, I am backing Huddersfield to win this game and move to three wins out of their opening three games, a dream start for them.
