Thanks to the International Champions Cup competition taking place this summer, we get the chance to see some great friendly matches between some of the best teams in the world. On Tuesday, we will see Chelsea take on Bayern Munich in what looks set to be a fantastic match between two great clubs.
As we move closer to the new season kicking off, we will see teams field their best eleven and play their star players for longer periods. We are still a few weeks away from the season starting, so we won’t quite see this yet. However, I am sure both teams will field strong line-ups because they want to perform well against other top clubs.
Thanks to the International Champions Cup, we have another great game to look forward to on Tuesday, and a game where some of the world’s best players will be in action.
Chelsea Form
Chelsea have played just one fixture so far, but they were very impressive in that game. They bagged themselves a 3-0 victory over their rivals Arsenal to set their pre-season off with a bang. In that form, they can beat anyone and should they turn up with the same mind set, I can see them beating Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Bayern Munich Form
After winning comfortably on home soil, in both full and 45 minute matches, Bayern Munich have really struggled in the International Champions Cup. In their opening game they led for a long time against Arsenal, but struggled to close the game out, despite having chances to do so. They allowed an equaliser right at the end of the game, then went on to lose the resulting penalty shootout. At the weekend, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat by AC Milan, a game in which they were disappointing once more. Bayern are much further forward in their preparations than Chelsea, and while it is not time to hit the panic button yet, they would love a victory to steady the ship.
Team News
All eyes will be on one man in this game and that is new Chelsea forward, Alvaro Morata. He has been signed to bring goals to the team, and his arrival is likely the end for Diego Costa, who has fallen out with the club. Costa did well for Chelsea last season, playing an important role and Morata is going to have to quickly adapt to the Premier League if he is to have the same impact. Antonio Conte has said Morata will definitely play in this game, but he will feature from the bench, he won’t start.
Elsewhere, because of the stage we are at, I expect to see a lot of changes and a lot of players taking part for 45 minutes, or an hour in this game. Bayern have played a lot more football than Chelsea, playing two International Champions Cup games as well as two 45 minutes friendlies and two full friendlies on home soil. With this, and with their current form, we may see some of their stars a little longer to try and bag the win that they could really do with.
Top Betting Tips
After playing poorly at the weekend and getting beat by Arsenal the game before, Bayern Munich are struggling to find their form in pre-season. They won’t be too desperate as this is only pre-season, but Carlo Ancelotti will want to see his team put in an improved performance and he will also want to see them pick up a win to boost morale. However, I don’t think they will do that today, I think Chelsea will have enough to beat them in this one.
Chelsea breezed past Arsenal at the weekend, in very taking style. They looked like a team that was fully fit and in the middle of an important season battle, not one who were playing their first game together after a summer break. If there is more to come from Chelsea, which I think there is, then they look the real deal and can continue their run with a win over Bayern Munich here.
All eyes will be on Alvaro Morata to see what he can do, and to see if he can be the answer to Chelsea’s attacking dilemma. I only expect him to play for 30 or 45 minutes, but it is going to be great to see him play, and even better if he could bag himself a goal on debut.
