Both of these are sat on three points after their opening two games of the new season in League Two. Both lost their respective openers and then responded with a victory in their second match. So there isn’t anything to split these two then going into this clash up in Cumbria and if recent trends between them carry on this is going to be a long war of attrition over the 90 minutes. It may be hard to turn down the appeal that the drawn outcome has going at a price of 12/5 with Ladbrokes. Home side Carlise are running at even money to bag themselves the three points, while the Robins are out at 11/4 to come away victorious from their long trip up north.
Carlisle Form
Carlisle suffered a 2-1 home loss against Swindon on the opening weekend of the new season but responded with a 2-1 win for themselves at Cambridge in their second game. That home loss though against Swindon could be the important factor here. Carrying over from last season the Cumbrians are just W1 D2 L5 in their last eight home games in League Two, so that has to be a bit of a worry for them as they won’t want back to back defeats in their first two home games of the new season. But they have remained unbeaten for a while on home soil against the Gloucestershire club.
Cheltenham Form
Cheltenham’s season opened with a 2-1 loss at Morecambe before they responded to put up a good 1-0 home win over Crawley. They needed that but it is their away form which is of great concern and it is what got them into struggles near the foot of the table last season. The Robins are now winless in their last eight away games in League Two, losing six of those. As a positive for Cheltenham, Mohamed Eisa has netted a goal in both games for them this term.
Head to Head News
Trends can certainly make picking options a lot easier and there is a massive trend running in recent head to head games between these two. Each of the last eleven league games between them have gone under the 2.5 goal line. Seven of the last nine meetings have produced no more than one goal in them. So this is a fixture where goals generally are at a premium. Carlise are unbeaten in their previous six home games in League Two against Cheltenham, winning four and conceding just two goals in that sequence.
Top Betting Tips
Who do you trust more? For this one, you have Carlisle’s slack home form going up against Cheltenham’s pretty dodgy away from. But Carlisle do have the specific form at home against the Robins and that may tip the balance. Obviously with so few goals in previous meetings under 1.5 goals is value at 5/2 with Sky Bet and with that in mind if you are looking at the Cumbrians edging it, a Carlise 1-0 correct score has appeal at 13/2 with 10Bet. If you just want to play it safe, even money on the home side is worth a stake.
