The Premier League is back this weekend and with it comes excitement, goals and glory. Most of that glory goes to the goal scorers and of course, the Golden Boot race is the competition many gamblers are interested in.
However, that completely forgets another, equally as interesting competition – the race to have the most assists in the league. With the influx of top midfield and striking players in the league, it will be interesting who can make the most chances.
The likes of Paul Pogba and Jordan Henderson will be hoping to join the guys on elite numbers, while players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Erikson will want to stay at the top level.
Form
Kevin de Bruyne was the top assist creator in the Premier League last season. The Belgian genius created 18 goals last season and will aim to be among the top creators again this season.
Christian Erikson was second on that list, but his chances may have been hampered by Spurs’ lack of activity in the transfer market. That’s the thing about assists – you need somebody to finish off the chances you create, so midfielders in teams that don’t have top strikers aren’t as likely to win this award.
Alexis Sanchez is always near the top of these lists and last season he was partially hampered by injury. If the Chilean stays fit this season then he could be near the top of the creators.
News
Phillipe Coutinho is many people’s choice for this list, but questions remain whether or not he will still be in the Premier League come the end of the transfer market. The same applies to Alexis Sanchez.
If Gylfi Sigurdson can get a move to a side in the top-half of the table, then he might have more of a say in the betting here. If Liverpool consider him after selling Coutinho, then he could be one of the top chance creators in the league.
Particularly if you consider that he was second on the assist list last season. A better team could definitely make better use of his creativity.
Betting tips
De Bruyne is once again favourite for this gong and with Jesus and Aguero on the end of the chances that he creates, we find it hard to overlook his chances yet again. He is 3/1 with Coral to have the most assists next season.
Coutinho is 7/1 with Coral to have the most assists next season, but for that to happen he would have to stay with Liverpool. That’s not looking too likely at the moment, so we will stay clear of that one. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a nice outside bet at 10/1 with Coral to have the most assists.
We are going to go for one of our favourite players – the little Spanish genius, David Silva. He is priced at 16/1 to have the most assists in the Premier League this season.
With the amazing strikers at City, we can’t see too many people getting the best of him.
