Both teams are in a promising situation going into the last matchday. They both won one of the previous two games, and whether that would be enough for them to advance to the knockout phase will be seen when the two meet at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on June 26th.
Slovakia vs Romania: Initial situation
Both Slovakia and Romania go into the final matchday with three points each. In most of the groups, that would be good enough to take third place in the standings, but given the fact that Belgium and Ukraine have the same number of points, this game is very interesting.
Slovakia Stats & Form
Slovakia made the biggest upset so far in the tournament, defeating Belgium in the opening matchday. All of a sudden, they came close to advancing to the next round, even though no one really gave them a chance for anything more than maybe a single point. They scored first in the second matchday against Ukraine but could not hold on to it and lost 2-1 at the end. That was their first loss after three consecutive wins, including two friendlies against Wales and San Marino, both 4-0. They have six wins, three losses, and one draw in the last ten games. Slovakia has scored at least a goal in nine of their last ten games.
Romania Stats & Form
Romania made a lot of noise in the opening matchday, dominating Ukraine and winning 3-0 at the end. Every single goal was a small football masterpiece, and Romania made a huge step towards the next stage of the tournament. However, things didn’t go that well in the second game, as Belgium took a 1-0 lead at the very beginning of the match. Romania tried to tie the score, but Belgium was the better team and won 2-0 at the end. Romania has four wins, four draws, and two losses in the last ten games. Three of those wins were consecutive in the final games of the qualifying round, which gave Romania a chance to go to the Euro. Five of their last seven games finished under 2.5 goals.
Slovakia vs Romania: Head to Head
These two teams have played seven times before, Romania has won three of those while the other four games have ended in a tie. It’s been 11 years since their last games which ended 1-1. These two teams played twice in the same qualifying group for the European Championships in 1996 and 2000. Romania won three of those games with one draw.
Slovakia vs Romania Odds
Interestingly, given the odds, the most likely outcome of this game is a draw with 110, for Slovakia’s win the odds are 220 while for Romania 260.
The total goal line is set at 2.5 with 240 for over and -333 for under.
Betting tip and prediction: Slovakia vs Romania (26.06.2024)
Both teams are going into the final matchday with three points, the same as the other two teams in Group E, Belgium and Ukraine. That makes things very interesting in terms of which teams will move on to the next stage. Given the fact that they all have the same number of points, maybe the goal differential, the head-to-head match, or maybe even fair play rules will make the difference.
What goes in favor of Slovakia and Romania is the fact that, given all the criteria, they are in a good situation, with Romania being ranked first and Slovakia third. What that means is that if they play a draw in this match, both of them will avoid being the last team in the group regardless of the outcome of the game between Belgium and Ukraine, and that will get them through to the knockout stage.
We are not saying that both sides will shake hands going into the game, but none of them will focus on attacking the opponent’s goal. As time progresses, the draw will have an outcome that the other side will settle for, so we expect that to be the final score.
