Three European Football Bets for the Weekend

The North London Derby may be dominating all of the sports newspapers in the England, but there is an equally big local derby taking place in Spain as Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid in La Liga. That is just one of the matches that I will be focusing on in this article where I will be giving you three betting tips for the weekend across the major European football leagues.

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid

This is one of the biggest games in world football and also the first Madrid derby to be taking place at Atletico’s new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano. This game is made even bigger due to the fact that both of these sides already trail Barcelona by eight points in the title race and neither can afford to lose. Neither of these sides have really impressed this season, with Real Madrid dropping points in four of their ten games, including a 2-1 loss against Girona. Atletico on the other hand are unbeaten, but have drawn five of their 11 matches so far. To me, this game has draw written all over it and I think a decent bet could be on Under 2.5 goals (9/10) considering how solid Atletico are at the back.

Athletic Bilbao v Villarreal

The prices on offer in this game look very appealing to me; Villarreal are priced up at 5/2 to pick up an away win in and when you look at both sides recent records that seems huge. Athletic Bilbao have been very poor this season and find themselves down in 15th place in La Liga. They have lost three games in a row and six of their last eight, on the other hand, Villarreal are going well up in 5th place and have won four of their last five in La Liga. You’ve got to fancy that Villarreal will pick up another win in this one against a very poor Bilbao side.

Bayer Leverkusen v RB Leipzig

This could be the game of the day in Germany as 2nd placed RB Leipzig travel to a Bayer Leverkusen team who are unbeaten at home. If you simply looked at the league positions of these two clubs, you would think that RB Leipzig would be big favourites, but that is not the case. Leverkusen have been superb at home this season, winning three and drawing two of their five matches, scoring 13 in the process. It is away from home where they have struggled, winning just once. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig have lost three of their six matches on the road, suggesting that this could be a close run thing on Saturday lunchtime. I’m backing a draw in this match and that is definitely a result which RB Leipzig would take before kick off.
