Betting Tip: Preston v Bolton

It’s Friday night Championship action from Deepdale as Preston play host to the ailing Trotters. Preston are badly in need of a win as well after tanking to a four-match losing streak before the international break came along to give them a chance to gather themselves. Bolton though, who are sequestered away in the bottom three of the table have had a far worse time of things this season, but have shown recent glimmers of survival hope. The Lilywhites are 5/6 to pick up the home win, with Bolton at 19/5.

Preston Form

It has been four straight defeats in the league then for Preston and that’s not just the only troubling thing. They collected six clean sheets in their opening nine games of the Championship season but their defence has sunk like a lead balloon recently. They have conceded at least two goals in each of their last six league games now and they are unrecognisable. At home they hold a W3 D3 L2 record for the season, losing their last two back to back against Brentford and then Villa. The trouble is, is that Preston aren’t a good enough offensive force to have their defence start crumbling on them. They need to arrest this dip in form quickly.

Bolton Form

Bolton collected only two points in their opening eleven games of the league season, but they have shown a bit more promise since mid-October. They have gone unbeaten in their last five games with a W2 D3 record on the board and while their defence still can’t keep a clean sheet (they’ve managed one all season) they are at least scoring now. Put that together with Preston’s sloppy defence and over 2.5 goals for even money suddenly looks a decent bit of business. The Trotters though are still looking for their first win out on the road this season in the championship (D4 L4) and they have only managed the five goals out on their travels.

Head to Head News

Preston took four points off Bolton the last time the two met which was back in the 2015/16 Championship season. That’s really all the recent history there is between them. The game at Deepdale ended in a 0-0 draw.

Top Betting Tips

It’s not unreasonable to expect a goal at both ends at least in this one and 5/6 on both teams to score should have some appeal. The Trotters can’t be wholeheartedly trusted because they haven’t won away but have scrapped out a couple of good away draws recently so they should have appeal to pick up a point against the out of sorts Lilywhites.
