New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers: Current situation
There’s something about these Knicks that has many of their fans doubting their title aspirations, despite the team being 37-20 on the season. If we discount game against the top 2 teams in the East and the best team in the West, the Knicks are an elite 37-13 this year. However, you have to play the big teams at some point, so there’s plenty of work still left to be done by head coach Tom Thibodeau as we head into the final 25 or so games of the regular season.
Those final month and a half for the Philadelphia 76ers cannot end soon enough. This season has been a complete waste, their best player Joel Embiid will likely be shut down for the year and have surgery on his knee to try and repair what’s left of it. Free agent acquisition Paul George has completely fallen off, setting the franchise back several years. We could be headed towards a complete overhaul this offseason in Philadelphia.

Despite cutting the lead to single digits in the 3rd quarter, the Celtics starters came back in and it was all over for the Knicks. Head coach Nick Nurse has likely lost the locker room after this loss, the Sixers have not covered the spread in 9 straight games and they are just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games.

Following an embarrassing 142-110 home loss to the Chicago Bulls, the Philadelphia 76ers are very close to shutting down Joel Embiid for the season and giving up on their hopes of making it into the play-in tournament. Philly now owns the league’s longest active losing streak at 8 games in a row, going into Madison Square Garden their chances of ending that poor run are very slim. New York needs a result here after losing to the Celtics over the weekend. After that loss they are now 0-7 SU against the Cavaliers, Celtics and Thunder combined, which has raised many questions if they can really be a title contender. We do not anticipate any major issues in the game against Philadelphia, the Knicks took care of business in both meetings earlier this season winning by 12 and 6 points on the road. With the series now switching to New York, it’s reasonable to assume that the level of assertiveness displayed by the Knicks will go up a notch. Jalen Brunson in particular has had some really good games against Philly, he’s averaging 28 points per game on over 51% shooting in those 2 meetings.
