Who are you backing to be Premier League top goal scorer?

Goals change games and over the years Premier League clubs have spent huge fees to get the most prolific scorers with the hope to finish top of the pile. But, who will score the most?

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the strong favourite with Betfair and Paddypower offering the best price at 9/5. The English striker has finished the last two seasons with the most goals and looks set upon doing so again. He is on course for the Golden Boot for a third time having scored eight in his 11 Premier League games so far averaging just under a goal a game.

The 24-year-old is joined top goal scorer with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero who is looking to stake his claim.  The Argentine is valued by Unibet and 888Sport at 9/2 and for good reason to. He has scored his eight goals in seven league appearances and if he stays fit, he could lead the way. Especially alongside his City teammates who have already collectively scored 33 goals in their opening 11 games.

Romelu Lukaku 2016
Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is regarded as an outside bet for the award. The Manchester United striker is only a goal behind the pair with seven and Betfair currently have the Belgian down at a whopping 6/1.

The 24-year-old started the season in inspiring form scoring three in his first two matches but has seen his foot come off the gas having not scored in his last four Premier League appearances. His last goal came in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace and manager Jose Mourinho will be keen to get him back amongst the goals sooner rather than later. Manchester City’s young starlet Gabriel Jesus has settled into the Premier League superbly. The 20-year-old sits next to Lukaku on seven but has achieved his feat having less game time. Head coach Pep Guardiola continues to experiment with Jesus and teammate Aguero as to whether to play the pair together or separately, but one thing remains certain, they will both score you goals.

At 7/1 the Brazilian could prove to be a worthy punt as his form progresses to escalate. Out of the four leading for the award, Jesus appears to be the most clinical. It has only taken him 19 shots to get his seven goals, whereas Kane needed 40 shots to reach his eight.

The fight for the Golden boot has never been closer with Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (Skybet 10/1), Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling (Unibet 40/1) and Liverpool’s Mohamed (Ladbrokes 33/1) all joint second with seven goals. The punter is spoiled for choice when selecting who to back and it will be interesting to see what player will take the initiative as we head into the busy December period.
