Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic: Current situation
It’s beginning to look like that the Boston Celtics have completely given up on the idea of catching the Cleveland Cavaliers in the race for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. The Magic can only wish to be in the situation that the Celtics are, at least health wise. Injuries to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have completely decimated the Magic this season, but despite that they’ve overcome adversity and managed to remain in one of the top 5 seeds in the East for most of the season. Now Paolo Banchero is back and the team will only get better as time goes on.

It’s hard to explain just 97 points scored on under 40% shooting from the field and under 35% from three against the Toronto Raptors. Boston could just never get going in that game, there was very little resistance on the defensive end as well as they allowed the Raptors to dish 35 assists and outrebound them by 11. Head coach Joe Mazzulla has to question his team’s character after that loss.

His 7 turnovers shows us that he is not close to being the player he was before his injury, but the effort is there. Another thing the Magic will have to improve on is their rebounding, they finished with just 32 boards on Wednesday and allowed the Bucks to shoot over 62% from the field.

They are facing a very resilient Orlando Magic team here, a team that won the first meeting by 4 points without their two best players. This time around Banchero is back, which gives the Magic their number one scoring option back. Orlando has been one of the more trustworthy teams in the NBA as far as covering the spread goes, they are at 23-19 ATS in 42 games played. Meanwhile, Boston has only covered the spread 7 times in 21 home games, making them one of the teams that’s better to avoid in games like these. Orlando’s lack of a three-point shot is a slight concern here, but unlike other teams in the league they are able to compensate a bad three-point shooting night with extra effort on the defensive end. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder have a better defensive rating this season than the Orlando Magic, with opponents averaging just 106.9 points per 100 possessions against them.
