Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers: Current situation
The current state of the Timberwolves isn’t ideal, but it is improving. They have won 4 of their last 5 games which has brought them back into playoff contention in the West. They find themselves 9th in the standings with a 12-11 record, actually trailing Friday’s opponent the Lakers by half a game. That fact alone makes this game a must win for both sides.
With just 3 wins in 10 games the Lakers have completely cooled off after their 10-4 start to the season. Consistency in their style of play is the main issue the Lakers are facing. On some nights they’ll shut down the opponent on defense, while on some nights they’ll allow 130+ points easily. It is hard to accumulate wins when you don’t have an identity. Perhaps things can improve with LeBron James currently taking a break from the team?
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
From a bettors perspective the Timberwolves haven’t performed well lately, covering the spread just once in 6 games. However, on Friday they return from a mini 3-game road trip and will play in front of a packed Target Center where they are 7-4 on the season. Joe Ingles is their only injury worry for this game, Anthony Edwards will need to show up here after averaging just 17.5 points per game in 2 meetings with the Lakers this season.
Los Angeles Lakers Stats & Form
The Lakers are coming off a home win over the Blazers here. They got 30 points, 5 blocks and 11 rebounds from Anthony Davis in that game, while D’Angelo Russell exploded or 28 and 14 assists of the bench. Rui Hachimura more than made up for LeBron’s absence here with 23 in 39 minutes played. The most impressive stat from that win is the 25 assists by the Lakers, something we don’t usually see.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers: Head-to-Head
The two teams have split the 2 regular season meetings so far, with each team winning their home game. The Timberwolves have won the last 3 regular season series, but they haven’t been able to sweep the Lakers in any of those. LA has had a hard time playing in Minneapolis, winning just twice in their last 15 visits.
Minnesota Timberwolves – Los Angeles Lakers Odds

The point total has been set at 217.5 points, with odds of 10/11 supporting either the over or the under.

Betting tip and prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers (13.12.2024)
LeBron James not being around the team actually helps the Lakers a bit here. So far this season they have a negative plus/minus when he’s on the court, we saw just how much they improved defensively in the win over Portland the other day. Defense could very well decide this game too, just like it was the case in the first two meetings between the teams earlier this season. Minnesota has really turned it up on that end, holding 4 of their last 5 opponents to under 100 points. Only 4 teams in the NBA have a better defensive efficiency record in home games than Minnesota, they allow just 105.1 points per 100 possessions. On December 3rd they held the Lakers to just 80 points at Target Center in a convincing 29 point win. With LeBron, Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaxson Hayes and Christian Wood all out for LA, they will look to once again rely on Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell to carry them offensively. That worked well against a sub-par Blazers team, but against the Timberwolves who have defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert it could be a struggle to score. We are backing the under for this game.
