Minnesota Timberwolves vs LA Clippers: Current situation
Coming into this game the Minnesota Timberwolves are just 1-2 in the Emirates NBA Cup after a tough home loss to the Houston Rockets. They would need quite a few results to go their way and a win against the Clippers to keep their hopes of advancing live. Right now this team is on a 3-game losing streak, but that’s not even their biggest problem. There’s a considerable drop-off in defense, from a team that was in the top 2 in defensive rating for the most part last season, Minnesota is now just 12th.
Meanwhile, the Clippers might just be the team that’s made the biggest leap defensively compared to last season. They were allowing 114.6 pts per 100 possessions last season, that’s down to 108.4 this season which ranks them 5th best. That’s even more impressive when you consider that best player Kawhi Leonard is yet to play a single minute. Ivica Zubac has made a huge leap in the rebounding department, he could be in the running for Most Improved Player if he continues playing this way.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
Ever since the game against the Raptors where Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle budded heads, this Minnesota team just hasn’t been the same. They’ve now dropped 3 games in a row and 6 of their last 8. Anthony Edwards is doing his best to keep them relevant in the Western Conference, but until the defense doesn’t improve, the Timberwolves will be a mid-tier team. Their next 3 games are all against formidable opponents at home, this could very well decide in which direction the rest of the calendar year will go for them.
LA Clippers Stats & Form
The Clippers had a solid win streak going until they met the defending champions Boston Celtics. LA got blown out 126-94 on the road for their first loss in 6 games. Ivica Zubac was the lone bright spot with 23 points and 10 rebounds. We shouldn’t hold that defeat against them though, the Celtics are just playing in a different dimension compared to everyone else. Prior to this game the Clippers will play the Wizards in what should be a winnable game for them.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs LA Clippers: Head-to-Head
The Clippers and Timberwolves have played each other a total of 132 times in the regular season. LA leads a slight lead with 69 wins to 63, however Minnesota has had a lot more success in the last 2 seasons. The T’Wolves have won 3 of the 4 meetings last year which was their 2nd regular season series win over LA in a row.

Betting tip and prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves vs LA Clippers (29.11.2024)
For us it all comes down to defense in this match-up. The Timberwolves have been one of the biggest disappointments in that area, ever since Karl-Anthony Towns left the team they just haven’t been the same. Which is odd, considering they’ve kept Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Joe Ingles and Mike Conley are both questionable to play here, the absence of the experienced point guard is very noticeable out there. Meanwhile, the Clippers are far from being healthy and yet they are one of the biggest overachievers so far this season. Zubac and Gobert will likely battle it out down low, while James Harden and Anthony Edwards will cancel each other out on the perimeter. The Clippers have the edge in bench scoring and the better defense, so we believe backing the road team to cover is a really solid bet here.
