Phoenix Suns vs New York Knicks: Current situation
All was going well for the Phoenix Suns who were 9-2 on the season, but then injuries struck and they’ve now lost 5 of their last 6 games. Losing their best player Kevin Durant was a big blow, this latest run proves just how much they rely on KD to win on a nightly basis. Not only that, but the player who was supposed to pick up the slack in his absence is also missing. Bradley Beal has not been one of the more durable superstars over the past few seasons and the Suns find themselves in a hole early in the season because of that.
After back-to-back wins over the Brooklyn Nets and a triumph over Washington on Monday, the Knicks are finally over the .500 mark at 8-6. Karl-Anthony Towns has also returned from injury, his presence lifts the Knicks offense into a completely different stratosphere. Ever since acquiring the big man, New York has been elite on that end. They find themselves 3rd in offensive rating, which is very uncharacteristic for a Tom Thibodeau led team.

Devin Booker has tried to put the Suns on his back and carry them offensively, but apart from the game against Orlando where he had 44 points, Booker has been rather unproductive. Right now the injury report includes Jusuf Nurkic, Bradley Beal, Collin Gillespie and Kevin Durant. Until the Suns get at least Kevin Durant back, they will be a sub .500 team. They are 5-2 in home games this season, but even that record won’t last for a while with all those players out.
New York Knicks Stats & Form
New York just put up 134 points on the Washington Wizards in a 134-106 home victory on Monday. It was a complete team effort with all 5 starters scoring at least 14 points in the win. More importantly though, only one of them played over 32 minutes which is important considering the workload they’ve been under in the past few games. With a somewhat easier schedule coming up, we could very well see the Knicks in the top 4 in their Conference in mid-December.

However, give the injury situation they are dealing with, we believe the Knicks have a really solid chance of winning their 4th consecutive game. The Suns haven’t faired well in games when they are the underdogs this season, they’ve lost 6 of 8 such games. Meanwhile, New York is coming into this game full of momentum after scoring at least 120 points in 4 of their last 5 games. Not having to deal with Kevin Durant on the defensive end should allow Karl-Anthony Town and OG Anunoby to invest a lot more energy in scoring the basketball. Jalen Brunson and Devin Booker will most likely cancel each other out on that end of the floor, the Knicks just have more talent available and that will give them the edge here.
