Oklahoma City Thunder vs New Orleans Pelicans: Current situation
The growth of this OKC Thunder team has been well documented and after making the Western Conference semi-finals last year, they are hoping to make the next step in their development. So far so good. They are off to a 9-2 start to the season, despite injuries slowing them down. Still, that shouldn’t derail one of the deepest teams in the NBA, they are one of the frontrunners to win the NBA Cup, as long as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is healthy and playing well.
The atmosphere around the New Orleans Pelicans is just not good right now. They did make it into the playoffs last year through the play-in tournament, only to get swept by the Thunder 4-0. In the offseason they acquired Dejounte Murray to solve their point guard position issues, however so far this season it has not proven to be a good move. Going into the NBA Cup the Pelicans have a total of 5 players out with injuries and their odds of lifting a trophy are not looking good.
Oklahoma City Thunder Stats & Form
SGA just dropped a season high 45 points as the Thunder bounced back following a 11 point home loss to the Warriors. The win over the Clippers on Monday night was a much needed one, head coach Mark Daigneault was able to rally the troops after Chet Holmgren suffered a hip injury which will keep him out for more than 2 months. With him and his replacement Isaiah Hartenstein still out, expect Oklahoma City to play a small line-up in coming games, which could result in some high scoring outcomes.
New Orleans Pelicans Stats & Form
Zion Williamson, Jordan Hawkins, Herbert Jones, C.J. McCollum and Dejounte Murray are all on the injury report for New Orleans. This season’s Pelicans remind me the most of last season’s Memphis Grizzlies who just couldn’t catch a break with the injury bug. The Pels’ only hope right now is disgruntled star Brandon Ingram to carry them until all those players come back, but after seeing this team score just 88 and 100 points against the Magic and Blazers, things are not looking good.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs New Orleans Pelicans: Head to Head
The NBA had high hopes for this match-up when they were making their schedule for this season. However, injuries have ruined their plans as neither team is at full strength here. Oklahoma City has won back-to-back games in the regular season, interestingly both of those were on the road in New Orleans. That means, combined with the 4-0 series win in the 1st Round last year, OKC is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.
Oklahoma City Thunder – New Orleans Pelicans Odds
Odds for a OKC Thunder home win aren’t all that big here, most oddsmakers are offering 1/5 for that outcome. If you fancy the injury hit Pelicans, you can get a massive price of 7/1.
The point total has been set at 221.5 points, with odds of 10/11 supporting either the over or the under.

Betting tip and prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder vs New Orleans Pelicans (13.11.2024)
Even the most optimistic Pelicans fans would have a hard time pointing out an advantage their team has over the Oklahoma City Thunder right now. New Orleans has over 50 points per game worth of players out with injuries, making up that much ground against the best team in the Western Conference sounds like mission impossible. Meanwhile, the Thunder are red hot after scoring 132 and 126 points in 2 of their last 3 games, playing a smaller line-up here will result in a lot of overs cashing in the next month or so of play. This team has also been a reliable 7-4 ATS this season, plus as favorites they’ve won 8 of 10 games played. The road team simply does not have enough players available to pose a threat here, they lost by double digits against the shorthanded Orlando Magic and one of the worst teams in the NBA the Portland Trail Blazers. Look for the Thunder to dominate this match-up and cover the spread.
