The WTA Tour reaches its climax in Singapore as the world’s top 8 female tennis players battle it out for the unofficial 5th major of the season. The top 8 players are broken into two round-robin groups of 4 with the top 2 players from each group progressing through to the semi-finals and subsequent final. With the top 8 players in the world in action, it promises to be a week of high quality tennis in Singapore for a fitting season finale.
Here are some our tips for the title in Singapore:
Garbine Muguruza – 7/2 – The world number 2 has had a phenomenal year culminating in collecting her maiden Wimbledon championship in July. The Spaniard’s consistent hitting from the back of the court is too much for most players to deal with and she is rightfully the favourite here.
Simona Halep – 4/1 – The newly crowned world number 1 has had another consistent year without claiming a major crown, she reached the final at Roland Garros but was outmuscled by Jelena Ostapenko and has only managed 1 tournament win this year – at the Madrid Masters.
Karolina Pliskova – 11/2 – World number 3 Pliskova has had a solid year without winning any Grand Slams and even reached the world number 1 ranking during the summer. She reached the last 8 in 3 of the 4 slams this year and will be hoping she can go a couple better in Singapore.
Elina Svitolina – 11/2 – The Ukranian has had a sensational year and finds herself at number 4 in the rankings. She has picked up 5 tournament wins this term and is a real force to be reckoned with on the hard courts.
Caroline Garcia – 6/1 – As always with the season ending events, someone has a late charge to secure qualification and this season it was Garcia – she was won her last 2 events (in Wuhan and Beijing) to guarantee a spot in her first WTA Tour Finals and looks bang in form.
Caroline Wozniacki – 8/1 – The Danish superstar has had her most consistent year on the WTA Tour despite only lifting one trophy. She has reached 7 finals this season – only winning 1 – but will welcome a return to the WTA Tour Finals event after a three year absence.
Jelena Ostapenko – 7/1 – Few would have envisaged the diminutive Latvian making the WTA Tour Finals at the start of the season but her French Open triumph in June elevated her onto the world stage. Her subsequent win in Korea last month suggests she’s in good form going into this one.
Venus Williams – 7/1 – At the age of 37 Venus Williams has had one of her most successful seasons. She reached the last four in 3 of the 4 Grand Slam finals this season and lost in the final at the Australian Open and Wimbledon – she will be the player they are all looking to avoid here.
Top Outright Bet: Garbine Muguruza to win the title – 9/2 (Betway).
Additional Bet: Caroline Garcia to qualify from the group stages – 7/2 (Paddy Power).
