Betting Tip: Chelsea v Roma

There have been some worrying signs for the reigning English champions Chelsea with back to back defeats in the Premier League. Their UEFA Champions League campaign seems to be well on track though after having taken an unexpected win at Atletico Madrid on match day two. But they get another tough game as they welcome Roma who have been carrying good domestic form this season and have already frustrated a point out of Atleti in the Champions League group. They will probably ask plenty of questions of Chelsea and are well underestimated at 19/4 to win this at bet365, with Chelsea at 13/20.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea have won both of their Champions League group stage matches so far, but their domestic form, with back to back losses against Man City and Crystal Palace tells a different tale. They are missing key personnel at the moment, notably, Alvaro Morata who the Blues really have no replacement for. The Blues are top of the group by two points over Roma so there is some consideration for them to do in this one and they hold a W5 D2 L2 record at home against Italian clubs. Chelsea have won just three of their six home games (D1 L2) this season across all competitions.

Roma Form

Roma had a great five-match winning streak on the weekend when they were beaten at home by the high-flying Serie A leaders Napoli. No disgrace there against a very, very good side. Other than that, they were flying and they took a 2-1 away win at Karabakh on match day two to build on their 0-0 draw in their opener against Atletico Madrid. Of the main Italian brigade across Europe this season, Roma perhaps lack scoring power the most, but they have former Man City man Edin Dzeko who is well among the goals again already this season. They are also a tough defensive side with five clean sheets in nine games in all competitions.

Head to Head News

Chelsea and Roma have met before and that was back in the 2008/09 group stage when Luiz Felipe Scolari was in charge of the English side. The Blues won 1-0 at then lost 3-1 out at the Stadio Olimpico. If you want the full head to head history, they did also meet in the 1965 Fairs Cup with Chelsea winning 4-1 on aggregate, all the goals in the tie coming at Stamford Bridge.

Top Betting Tips

Chelsea are lacking a bit with N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morata out of the side and their last two performances in the Premier League have been very average. Roma are more than strong enough at the back to go and pick up a point at the bridge and a Roma-Draw Double chance at 7/5 has some big appeal.
